I hope this does not become controversial for stupid reasons. But I've been to north India many times I am a north Indian Hindu myself, and I think there are many misconceptions about the Hindu and Sikh relationship on this board.
For the most part Hindus and Sikhs have lived together and intermarried for the past 500+ years. The only major conflict came in 1984 because of Indira Gandhi. After that relations became strained, but in recent times this has completely died down. I think many Sikhs are offended by South Indians making jokes about them, and rightly so. You have most likely never interacted with Sikhs.
The sacrifices made for India by Indian warriors have never been highlighted by the Indian government. They put Nehru and Gandhi up as the heroes of India. The real heroes of India, and the reason why there is an India are people like Prithviraj Chauhan, Guru Teg Bahadur and Shivaji.
Mods, if you want to put this into the serious discussion area I understand.
