I've just come to realized that why is it most of the filipino wolrd champions or even prospects are Bisaya(AJ banal, Z Gorres, Boom etc) ? I cant really name one tagalog who excelled in the sport of boxing (well except Luisito Espinosa).

Lets see here;

Retired world champs
1. Gabriel "Flash" Elorde was from Cebu
2.Francisco "Pancho Villa" Guilledo was from Negros
3.Rolando Bohol was from Bacolod

Even our current champions are bisayans

1. Nonito Donaire is from General santos
2. Florante Condes is from Romblon
3. Gerry Penalosa is from Gensan
Even Manny is from Gensan.

Does this mean Bisayans are better warriors than the tagalogs are. I'm not trying to start shii between tagalogs and bisayans here or wte, we just need to encourage the tagalogs to train hard and help raise world champs in boxing beerchug.gif

Btw, Pacquiao vs barrera on October 6, this might be the end of Barrera.

Luisito Espinosa is from Manila...Prospect Bernabe Concepcion is tagalog..

the question is why ilokanos have none..lol..j/k
calliezhou
usually, it is literally their work...like to earn dineros....money...$$$$$$$
a lot of boxers are from poor families...

ilocanos are said to be thrifty... they don't need money or they just have enough...

They say that boxing [along with cycling] is a poor man's sport. Like, most of the people who are into this sport are born poor. Seldom are those born rich.

Now, COULD it be that since Visayas and Mindanao is not as rich as Luzon [since it's here in Luzon where the financial capital is located], it's inhabitants are more likely to engage in boxing compared to those hailing from Luzon?

tagalogs have many fighters but not as good as bisayas,,,,coz the boxing culture their(bisayas) is pure science unlike here is pure money for fiestas...

Gerry Penalosa is from Luzon I believe.

Gerry Penalosa is from Negros Visayas but he is one of the top 5 greatest boxers in Philippine History.

Top 5 Boxers in Philippine History

Manny Pacquaio
Flash Eorde
Pancho Villa
Luisito Espinosa
Gerry Penalosa

I believe that the strongest puncher is still Luisito Espinosa because he is able to inflict brain damage to his opponents.
