I guess I might as wekk join since we're posting pictures of kings and past monarchies.

NGUYEN DYNASTY

Emperor Dong Khanh

Unjustly or not, Emperor Dong Khanh has gone down in history as one of the most unpopular rulers of the Nguyen dynasty because of his support of the French's rule.

Prince Nguyen Vinh San

One of the most heroic figures of the Nguyen Dynasty was the young Prince Nguyen Vinh San, who as Emperor Duy Tan, planned and instigated a struggle for freedom for Vietnam against the French colonial authorities. Despite his age, Emperor Duy Tan was a thoughtful and ethical monarch who refused all French efforts to corrupt him.

Emperor Ming Mang

One of the greatest rulers of Vietnam, in the thousands of years of Vietnamese history was the great Emperor Minh Mang, son and heir of the Father of Vietnam Emperor Gia Long. He took the nation his father had built and led it to its greatest extent in history. He brought stability at home and repelled an invasion by Siam. The borders were extended farther than ever before as Vietnam reached its peak of power and prestige. People called the nation of Minh Mang "Dai Nam", the Great South. During his years on the throne Dai Nam was the most powerful and prosperous nation in all of Southeast Asia.

Emperor Ham Nghi

The youthful Emperor Ham Nghi was one of the great freedom fighters of Vietnamese history. He grew up outside of the imperial court in quite humble surroundings, the brother of the virtuous but short-lived Emperor Kien Phuc, and also the younger brother of the unpopular Emperor Dong Khanh.

THE WOMEN OF VIETNAM

Trung Sisters - Trung Nhi & trung Trac

After more than 100 years of Chinese rule, the Trung Sisters led a revolt against the Han Dynasty. Together with the tribal lords they formed an army with several women generals. They attacked with a ferocity born out of oppression and desperation. The Trung Sisters took all land from China to Hue. They ruled together as queens until the Chinese sent another massive army to conquer Vietnam. Unwilling to live on in defeat the sisters committed suicide. They are the most popular and widely worshiped national heroines of Vietnam.

"The Dragon Lady" Madame Nhu

One of the most recognized and certainly one of the most controversial figures in the history of the short-lived Viet Nam Cong Hoa was Tran Le Xuan, better known as Madame Nhu, the wife of Ngo Dinh Nhu, the brother of the first Vietnamese President Ngo Dinh Diem and the unofficial "First Lady" of South Vietnam. Aside from her husband, Madame Nhu herself had quite an illustrious ancestry. Her mother was Than Trong Nam Tran who was a daughter of Princess Nhu Phien who was the youngest daughter of H.I.M. Dong Khanh, the ninth Emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty.

Queen Trieu Au

The great female warrior Trieu Au was born in 222 when China ruled Viet Nam. Her Chinese sister-in-law treated her like a slave after her parent's death. She finally killed her and used her great skills of oratory to rally the people to revolt against the Chinese. She led them into battle herself, on an elephant and wearing golden armor. Although her skill and bravery were legendary, and she struck fear into the hearts of the invaders, China was too powerful and after six months she was defeated and committed suicide.

Empress Nam Phuong

One of the best loved of all Vietnamese queens was the last Empress of Viet Nam, Her Majesty Nam Phuong. She was favored by the Emperor Bao Dai mostly for her education and intelligent conversation, though her great beauty endeared her to all of her countrymen as well. Empress Nam Phuong was a patron of many charities and took a special interest in the Vietnamese Red Cross. She was also deeply involved in the efforts to rebuild and restore the country. She was loved and adored by everyone who met her.
