i think it is possible and in a few case, legend case where that happens.

most noticeably zhang san feng.

he was a buddha believer but turned into a taorist.

they are just labels

both paths are very similar

perhaps they are one and the same

according to Zen if distinction no longer exists

I think that monk can win , they are looks more like gangsters , taoist lokks so lame and tame
