I think the US should adopt the lifestyle and laws that Singapore imposes on their citizens.
For example, if you chew gum in public, you get a citation. If you litter bug, you get whipped.
I think the US gov could use this kind of punishment system to reduce drug abuse, murder, rape, and other crimes.
Plus Singapore's public housing system is one of the best in the world. I watched a Korean tv show on Singapore and their public housing, and damn, it's so clean! Unlike the public houses here in the US where it's dirty, run-down, and ready to collapse.

No. You don't get caned in Singapore for littering. You will get fined and maybe get publicly shamed by being made to do corrective work. And you also do not get a citation for chewing gum even though chewing gums are banned in Singapore. Who told you all these?
However I do agree that Singapore's public housing system is very good. It has one of the highest percentage of people owning a house in a city rather than renting a house.

Do you realize just how large the United States is? Enforcing such laws would be impossible.

Not to mention how fu-king boring it would be. Society would be perfect but I like the drama. Life would suck if everything was put in an orderly fashion. Though some restrictions should be enforced more than others.

Comparisons between Singapore and U.S.A. is not possible in the first place. USA is so very huge in comparison to Singapore, so enforcing Singapore type laws would need an unimaginable amount of infrastructure and manpower which is impossible to implement in all of U.S.A.
People should think about it and be practice, just look at the size of Singapore it is a city state and not a nation state. Singapore is a tiny mini country.

A friend of mine in my grad program is an ethnic Chinese from Singapore. He told me how clean and nice Singapore is compared to the US. He also mentioned the strict rules on chewing gum, and how littering is a big penalty in Singapore.
He also talked about how an American tourist was being a smart aleck by littering in Singapore, I think 10 years ago. The American boy was arrested by Singapore authorities and was subject to being whipped by the authorities. The US embassy couldn't do $hit to stop the smart aleck American from getting whipped. LOL!!!

i don't think the american guy (Mike fay) was caned for littering, he was in a gang of boys who went around defacing the cars of the magistrate who had previously charged him with juvenile delinquency.

Is that what happened? My friend said something about a guy who did a petty minor offense, at least it would have been considered petty midsdemeanor here in the states, and got whippings for that.
I seem to like that kind of punishment.
I'd wish the US prison system would whip all the bros in prison for dealing drugs, raping people, murdering people, etc.

yes, it was a pretty minor offence that didn't merit a caning, but because he was a repeat offender and pretty high profile case, the guy had appealed to Bill Clinton to intervene with the SG government, that was the major mistake the family did, the judiciary felt compelled to stick to their decision for caning, and the Executive had to back them up otherwise the SG government wd be perceived by its citizens as spineless and caving in to pressure from the US government.
have u been whipped by the rotan before?

^Exactly!
If he had just took it like a man, kept his mouth shut, and just said that he was sorry and it was all a big mistake, they would have lessened it or just given him a fine...but nooo...he wanted to act like a kid and complain..
as for the US adopting Spore's rules....its not gonna work..US is too big...I guess they could try to follow the prison system slowly, state-by-state..

This i don't agree.. the bigger the country the more the manpower there is available for enforcing laws and logically more resources & funds$ to create the infrastructure needed..
Isn't it true in the case where the US can build a military force thousands of times larger & stronger than singapore? Unless we are talking about the country being a large chunk of "no man & no resource land".. this does not apply in the case of US..
Some may feel singapore is small thus easy to manage but bear in mind.. the little island state has not enough manpower & resources but yet achieving what it has today.. it is all in the mind if you want to get things done..
if a slender man can lift a 5kg dumbbell.. a bodybuilder should by right be able to lift something 3-4 times more.. agreed? It is only by natural that a larger country with more manpower and resources do better.. if it is governed well..

See, that's why I highly praise the SG government for taking their stance and telling Bill "barebackblowjob" Clinton to back off, and let them cane that unruly american kid. you know how unruly american kids are when they step foot on Asian soil.
Anyhow, the only governments in East and SE Asia that I see take stance against uncle same are SG, Korea, and China. Japan and taiwan are both followers of uncle sam.

Kestrel you're right in some respects. However, Singapore's population to land ratio is way larger than the USA. In other words, the USA has too small a population for its current size.

Singapore is awesome and lifestyle is expensive as well.
But i like the way they enforce their law. They are strict. Disciplined citizens.
