Just curious... if I moved to India with $100,000 USD in my pockets, how long will I be able to live comfortably before I go broke?

Depends on what kind of lifestyle you want to live.

Lets say u want to live an upper middle class lifestyle. $100,000 would roughly convert to 40 Lakhs. A home will cost 10-25 Lakhs. Let's throw in a car for 5-7 lakhs.

It all depends where u live obviously. If you wanted to live in Mumbai, you would use up ur money real soon.

I would say 5 Years.

There isn't going to be much difference between upper-middle class spending in India and US.

India's economy is $4156 billion in terms of purchasing power parity and $804 billion in terms of exchange rates.

Therefore each US dollar (or each 20 rupees) is hypothetically worth five times as much in India as it would be in the US in terms of spending.

Hypothetically, spending US $100,000 in India would be like spending $500,000 in the US.

Would the price of living be roughly the same in Chennai as in Mumbai?
Imran
Mumbai is the most expensive city in India.

Chennai would be loads cheaper.

I remember hearing recently that Mumbai is the second most costly city in the world for housing.

Mumbai is very expensive. Especially living expenses in Mumbai is very high. Chennai comes somewhere in the middle among Indian cities. This link could be of some help.
