I'm not really into anime, but from what little I've watched on tv and read on forums, you're missing classics like Cowboy Bebop and Fooly Cooly.*

*The Pillows did the soundtrack for Fooly Cooly, and are a crazy good band btw.

Edited to add: Also watch Miyazaki movies if you haven't already.

Fooly Cooly is kind of hard to explain (which is why it's good). On the surface, it's about this kid whose mundane life is interupted by a crazy girl from outer-space named Haruko, and has to fight with her to destroy invading robots...or something. I actually understand very little of the plot, but that's why it's good (apparently the manga is much easier to understand). But it's only 6 episodes long, so it'll take you like 2 1/2-3 hours at most to watch the entire series. The whole thing seems to be a veiled metaphor (particularly the changes the main character Naota undergoes, like growing horns when he gets hit/excited, etc.) for puberty and the beginnings of sexual realization. I've watched the series like 3 times, still don't understand everything. =P

But here's the wiki for it anyway, in case you're ever interested. I think you can probably just watch it on veoh.com or other sites of that sort if it seems like it'll interest you. And like I mentioned before, The Pillows did the soundtrack for the series, which is pretty killer (listen to The Pillows if you ever get into J-rock, or just in general. I don't watch anime or listen to Japanese music really, but I do love The Pillows).

thanks... i'll try it since you like it...

EDIT: OH YEAH!!!!! and i wanted to ask you guys something!!!! i am looking for this old anime where this guy has something on his hand and can attack people with it... i think it was shown a long time ago... maybe during the 2000- 2002? around there... maybe even earlier in japan. oh yeah and i am looking for another anime too... i can only remember a scene from this anime but it was really cool. some guy got stabbed (not with a dagger but with a nice weapon... you know thos kind of cool weapons i think) and there was another guy standing on top of a building? tower? and saying something like "no one could have survived being stabbed in the heart but..." these two animes are old and i don't even know their names and their storylines well enought to give a good enought description but i hope you guys can tell me what they are...
