Indeed.... icon_smile.gif
The combined domes and towers on each corners are Turkish style.
It's a modern interpretation of Turkish style mosque.

Wow, so many styles of Mosques. They all look very different from eachother.
Big too.

In Turkey most look the same and even some of them are in a block of residential houses.

wow, Masjid Laweyan is among my favorite of them all- classical, serene and very down to earth. The Al-Azhom in Tangerang however, I found grotesque and tries too hard/very nouveau-riche.
tangawizi
The masjid in Mozambique I saw was so threadbare and simple, they didn't even have a loudspeaker to call the faithful to prayers, the muezzin had to call his prayers just with bare voice.

That's the anti-nouveau riche of Islam. biggrin.gif

Yep, and I guess this is the only gold domed mosque in Indonesia. Or is there anything else? Anyone knows? beerchug.gif

^^ you know why we could build such luxurious mosque ? It is because they use the money of taxpayers to build that. And sometimes the time of the construction of such building is not right. For example, in my city they "INSIST" to build a "mesjid raya". And of course the idea came from those idle local or grassroot parliament members. The mosque was built at bloody outskirt of the city which is very far far away from the town. When i pay a visit to that place, along the road i saw many mosques already. And the population around there is agonizingly small to fill that mosque, leave alone the already numerous existing mosques. It is totaly non sensical idea. And before the project is tendered, PT. Chevron Pacific Indonesia (CPI) has willingly donated a piece of land near the town to build that mosque. In other words, the construction cost can't be trimmed. Unfortunately, the donation has been turned down so that they could build the mosque in the middle of the jungle. What a bloody lame joke. On the other hand, the road to the Kawasan Industry is agonizingly at bad condition. The road is not even asphalted. It is normally the intitiative of the factories owner to build the damn bloody infrastructure. At the end of year 2007, the city mayor and DPRD even get reprimanded because of excess in the budget. They dont even spin the money in the province owned bank. The mayor was minimumly come out with projects to repair and build the necessary infrastructure. They always shout for "putera daerah" to be the leader. But see what they gave to us ? If there is a project, the technical department will let the students to design and come out with the blueprint. And the technical department will not check the work by these students and just hand the blueprint to the winning contractors. And that's it, they will just ask them to do it exactly like the one drawn on the blueprints. they must follow all the measurements and size like stated on the blueprints. Later, when the work has progressed, in the middle of it, the technical departments will come and protest to the the contractors. They will only say ," salah ini". So, the they have to re do it again. macam mana nga gondok ? If there is project to build the city sewage system, all say can't do it. But if there is project to build big buildings or skyscrapers, they will say i can do it. tsk tsk tsk. cape dhe..... I just have to say this is the behaviour of melayu. I am sorry my state is the state where the native is melayu. No offence here. But it's like that.
jrockerz
ok,

id rather see one BIG CLEAN MOSQUE in the STRATEGIC place (cmon, like in SAUDI, Malaysia)

rather than MANY dirty small mosque in one region/area. (indonesia)

but the problem, is incompetent SKB, (surat keputusan bersama)
as long as majority is there and agreed, they have free do their own,
let say for example :
building stuff that you are not supposed to build.

wedding party in the middle of street.
dang dut party.
way below standard of traffic and neighborhood comfortability .

Masjid Raya Sultan Riau, Pulau Penyengat, Kepulauan Riau

Masjid Sultan Suriansyah, Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan

The tower of Masjid Kudus, Central Java featuring Hindu Temple style.
Probably it was a Javanese Hindu temple from Majapahit era converted to a mosque.
The central temple tower roof structure was removed and modified into a mosque minaret.

Notice the Majapahit red-brick architecture style, and its similarity with other Majapahit structure

In some part of Indonesia there r just enough masjid for now and what we need urgently are more
schools, hospitals, rumah yatim/jompo, ruko sederhana/modal bisnis untuk bisa menopang ekonomi umat miskin etc.

While the reverse has been happening in the US (especially in the metropolitan cities) - and this might serve as an indication for future reference and lesson to learn - are the conversion of beautiful and majestic old churches albeit empty for luxury apartments, congregation from other denominations (including masjid) or even sacrilegious nightclubs!
and the reasons r varies like idk.. downsizing, declining attendance or whatever himpitan ekonomi/market trend dictates.

Old mosque of Indonesia

Masjid Agung Manonjaya
Tasikmalaya, Jawa Barat

The roof style is called "Bale Nyungcung" (pointy pavilion/building), a Sundanese-Javanese style of mosque roof with tall pointy top.
Masjid Raya Bandung originally feature this style too and also called "Bale Nyungcung", however the renovation has altered and expanded the mosque of Bandung to be domed mosque with two tall tower.

Masjid Agung Bandung

IMO they should retained the "Bale Nyungcung" roof style... icon_sad.gif
