MATTEO GUIDICCELI - Karting Cutie

GUIDICELLI settles for 2nd place

SENTUL, INDONESIA - The Philippines Matteo Guidicelli made a big impression as he captured the runner-up Asian karting crown at the culmination of the 2004 Asian Zone Open karting championship at the Sentul Circuit
The 14 year old Guicidelli backed up by Addict Mobile Prepaid, Penshoppe, and Swatch had some rough sail during the weekend yet gave a strong fight in the premiere Junior-Intercontinental -A class to emerge overall runner up to 2004 Asian karting champion Calvin Wongwengman of Malaysia
Guicidelli lost the crown to Wongwengman by just two points because of the drop-one race system, He also best Filipino podium finisher that weekend since another top Filipino bet Michelle Bumgarner wound up third after spinning out of the race in the final three laps of the Formula open class.

Filipino Muslim

ROBIN Padilla is truly a changed man now. Recently, Robin received a commendation from ranking Muslim leaders from Turkey for his philanthropic work towards children of poor Muslim parents who can’t afford to give them higher education.

He has put up a foundation that serves the purpose and hopes it will grow bigger, with the help of other people who believe in his endeavor.

He decided not to sell his mansion even for P27 million and transformed into a school.

But Robin stressed that he has no intention now of running for a government position in order to help people. He helps other people without asking the government anything in return. Robin is one of a kind.

Illac Diaz Ideal Cutie

People like Illac Diaz are not born everyday. They belong to a rare breed of individuals who have the passion and dedication to excel in their respective fields.

Last October, he was named one of The Outstanding Young Persons of the World (TOYP) by the Jaycees International (JCI). The award formally recognizes 10 individuals between the ages of 18 and 40 who exemplify the finest attributes of the world's young people.

The award was formally given to him by the JCI World Congress last November 2006 in Seoul, South Korea .

Previous winners of the TOYP include actor Jackie Chan, entrepreneur Anthony Robbins, Australian aviation pioneer Janine Shepherd, Filipino writer Rene Villanueva and Filipino entrepreneur Jay Bernardo.

Hundreds of TOYM (Ten Outstanding Young Men) awardees from over 110 JCI member countries were nominated for the international honor. Diaz received the 2005 TOYM for social entrepreneurship from the Philippine Jaycees. Diaz is the first social entrepreneur to be so honored.

Last year, he headed the team that topped the $100,000 Entrepreneurship Competition at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston for the project Centro Migrante, a self-help business model that provides clean, safe and affordable urban housing for the thousands of Filipinos who come to Manila to look for jobs as seamen.

His team won the first and second prizes of the MIT's IDEAS Competition, which seeks out creative ideas that make a positive impact on the world. The team took the grand prize with their First Step turbine powered by sea currents to energize a wire frame on which corals grow four times faster than normal. They took the silver prize with their replicable, low-cost cement peanut sheller.

He set up the 40-room Pier One Seafarer's Dormitory in Intramuros in 2000 to meet the need for temporary housing for seaman applicants. Pier One has been operating successfully and today has three branches with over 1,500 beds. He also founded the MyShelter Foundation, which builds low-cost classrooms using the Earthbag Construction System.

He completed a research fellowship in the Special Program for Urban and Regional Studies at the MIT last year and holds a Master's in Entrepreneurship degree from the Asian Institute of Management.

Enrique Iglesias- Asian-Latino Idol

Video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDuhFKeiDjc

bio
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005040/bio

When he pitched his first English-language album in 2001, he did it in Taipei. Actually, he was here in 1999, but very briefly. He felt he wasn’t welcomed. At that time, he was already no. 1 in Central and South America, not to mention Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries and territories.

When we met in Taipei, he told me he was slightly disappointed by the lukewarm reception he got when he visted Manila.

But times have changed, and so has Enrique’s feelings about coming here. I remember when I asked him if there would ever be a chance for him to visit the Philippines he didn’t exactly say ‘no.’ Actually, he asked me if we were ready for him.

Enrique might be in for the biggest surprise of his life. The Filipinos have become familiar with his music since the time he was briefly in town for a string of radio promotion for his second album Vivir. “Bailamos,” from his eponymous album, was a big hit here, as well as “Hero,” from Escape, “Be With You,” from Enrique and “Addicted,” from his latest album 7. The Filipino-Spanish singer has sold a total of his 40 million copies of his albums all over the world.

Contrary to rumors, Enrique has never denied that his mother is a Filipina. “Though I was born in Madrid, my being a Filipino is very strong in me,” says Enrique. “When I was growing up, my mom (Isabel Preysler) would always talk about the Philippines. She taught us the things that are very important to Filipino culture such as family, being hospitable to guests, and fear of God. Why, I even remember the Filipino dishes she used to whip up!”

Even after his parents divorced—his father is the legendary Latin lover Julio Iglesias —Enrique remained close to Isabel. Every summer, Enrique and his siblings would travel from Miami (where he and his brother migrated) all the way to Spain to be with Isabel and listen to her stories all over again.

“We never really felt bad that dad was always on tour because there was always mom by our side. She was careful in shielding us from the show business environment. Mom made sure I knew what it felt to be a teenager; even one who could not even get a date for the junior prom! She really did a terrific job in raising us. It’s not as if anyone can do a ‘Behind The Music’ on me,” says Enrique.

People close to Enrique even surmise that Isabel was sort of an anchor to Enrique’s pursuit in music, especially in his first record deal. Although the singer never discusses his professional and personal relationship with his father, those close to the young Iglesias know that he never sought his father’s connections in clinching recording deals. In fact, Julio himself was kind of reluctant in supporting his son’s dream of performing professionally. When Enrique pitched his demo recording, he had to go by the pseudonym ‘Enrique Martinez.’

Enrique has not regretted any of what he had done to get himself started on the music scene. To date, Enrique has had five no.1 English songs (including “Addicted,” the lead single from his latest album 7 (Seven) and unprecedented 17 no. 1’s in Billboard’s Latin charts. Enrique has also won every award imaginable from Premio Lo Nuestro (Spanish counterpart to the Grammys) to World Music Awards.

On April 2, the half-Filipino international superstar Enrique Iglesias brings his ultra successful world tour to Manila in a one-night engagement dubbed 7 at the Araneta Coliseum.

Enrique Iglesias fans, it’s your chance to see this phenomenal pop star perform live. Find out why the Spanish-speaking world has dubbed him El rey del mundo (king of the world).

Paolo Montalban played Prince Charming in the 1997 TV version of Cinderella, co-starring with pop singers Brandy and Whitney Houston. He later won a lead role in the TV show Mortal Kombat and was named one of People magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People of 1998.

Born in the Philippines, Paolo is one of two children. The Montalban family moved to America when Paolo was just one year old. He lived in an apartment in Manhattan, and then in New Jersey, where he grew up in a neighborhood surrounded by mostly Filipinos. He grew up in a musical family: his father played the piano, two aunts studied the violin and piano at Julliard, and his mother was involved in the theater while a student at St. Paul's College in Manila. Like many other Filipino American children, he learned how to play the piano, as well as the violin and saxophone. And like many Filipino American children, he doesn't play anymore. When Paolo was attending grade school, he auditioned for his school's production of "Oliver" and got the lead role.

Paolo graduated with a pre-med course at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. After graduation, he had his eyes set on Broadway. His parents only wish was for him to get a college degree, which he did. However, after he got his diploma, he went straight for Broadway. His parents did support him in his decision primarily because he had a New York agent during his last year in college, with whom shortly after signing, secured him his first professional job on a national tour with "Man of La Mancha".

Paolo's success has convinced many Filipinos that he is the next best thing to happen to them since Lea Salonga. In an interview, he laughs saying "I wouldn't put myself in the same scale. She's a star. I'm just a guy." Though he may think he is just a guy, he too is considered a star to many people. Paolo understands the disadvantages of being an Asian actor in Hollywood. There isn't much in Hollywood for a stereotypical Asian who knows Kung-fu, who's a gangster or delinquent, or a wise munk of some sort. Still, nothing is stopping him. In the mean time, he's busy auditioning for other roles and relaxing playing video games and watching the cartoon channel.

Filipino - American: Michael Copon

Michael Copon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBSeawY9LF8

Fil-Am actor Michael Copon takes the Hollywood splash
TELEVISION and mainstream audiences have been noticing the tall, nicely framed face and athletic good looks of Fil-Am star Michael Copon, the Dean Cain look-a-like who plays Felix on WB’s hit series “One Tree Hill” (Tuesdays at 8 pm).

Born on November 13, 1982, Michael Sowell Copon was raised by a German mother (Monica Zelasko) and Filipino father, Berlin Copon (now remarried to a Filipina).

“Yeah, I was born in Virginia, you know, my old Filipino grandfather was in the Navy,” he said with a grin during this conversation during the Reeboks’s The Vault party on Melrose Ave. “My [Filipina] step-mom would always tell me, ‘You should go there in the Philippines, and you’ll be a star in a second!’ She said I could land a lucrative showbiz career in Manila.

I’ve learned a lot about Manila so much through her and I’m just so excited to go next year: nice beaches, pretty girls, and I heard houses there are also cheaper. I want to visit my relatives, too,” the six-foot-tall hunk continued. (Latest news: Michael Copon is contemplating to visit sooner, probably next month).

Growing up, his dad taught him the Filipino values and culture. “My favorite food is the classic pansit, chicken adobo (I’m not a pork fan), lumpia, and sinigang! I was overweight and fleshy when I was a kid, eating all this rice, you know what I mean? But now, I try to stay away from it. The worst thing my dad made me try is the bagoong and dinuguan. Filipinos are nasty! My dad eats fish heads, and showed me how to suck fish eyeballs and he made me do it,” Michael said, laughing and making wry face. “My aunt owns a Filipino restaurant down in Orange County and I’ve been there many times. I always hang out with my Filipino friends and cousins in San Diego.”

Michael moved to Los Angeles from his hometown in Cheasepeake, VA when he was 17. A local photographer spotted him and alerted LA Models Agency to his husky looks. Copon has since then worked for top vendors and commercials such as Pacsun, Skechers, and Old Navy, to name a few. He did a little bit of stand-up comedy back home, making friends and old people laugh, doing jokes and impersonations. He had always been a life of the party in his hometown.

His acting career started in 2001 when he was cast as Lucas Kendall, the Blue Time Force Ranger, in the highly rated children’s television series “Power Rangers” on Fox Kids Network, before graduating from Deep Creek High School in his hometown in Virginia.

As a defense football player during mid-school, Michael revealed he was kind of heavier, but playing basketball and doing other athletic routines kept him fit and energetic. He feeds his mind by reading a lot of books.

After a modeling gig in Hongkong, he passed an audition to join the cast of “One Tree Hill,” playing a hunky new dude on the block who has a serious affection for danger.

Besides getting so busy with his schedules with acting and modeling, Michael plans to pursue his singing career. In his spare time, he puts his passion in playing instruments, as well as writing and recording songs. Among the cast of “OTH,” he usually hangs out with Daniella Alonso who plays his sister. Asked what’s going to happen with his character in “OTH” next season, he answered, “We’re still negotiating about it. They’ll be surprised!”
