The Federal Republic of the Visayas (1898-1901)
Historical Facts obviously omitted in our School History Books:
(Source: History Reborn: The Federal Republic of the Visayas -Volume I * Issue No. 001 * July 15, 2007)
*That Spain had already formally surrendered to the Federal Republic of the Visayas even before Gen. Emilio F. Aguinaldo was proclaimed President in Malolos, Bulacan. That our Independent Visayan Republic, had never been under the authority and jurisdiction of Aguinaldo's "Katagalogan" Republic in Luzon.
*That the 1898 Treaty of Paris preliminaries, should not have included territories of the sovereign "Visayan Nation"; the confederation of Panay, Negros, Cebu, Bohol and Romblon cantonal governments --by virtue of Spain's formal surrender prior to this U.S-Spain treaty of peace and the $20-million buy-out. Spain had no more legal right to sell. This diplomatic "Faux pas" must be rectified.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*June 12, 1898 -Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo proclaimed Philippine Independence from Spain in Kawit, Cavite --but never won the war against Spain, as explained in the infamous betrayal --the "Mock Battle of Manila".
*Nov. 6 & Dec. 23, 1898 -Spain formally surrendered to both; the Negros Republic that merged with the Federal Republic of the Visayas based in Iloilo (respectively).
*July 4, 1946 -The United States granted Philippine Independence on a silver platter.
^^ Tama na yan. It's a petty Tagalog-Cebuano rivalry. It's like a GMA-ABS rivalry - no use at all. The more posts being added to that topic, the more degrading you let your Cebuanos or Tagalog brothers be. Take note, I'm Visayan but I try not to be part of this rivalry because it'll only cause more trouble and less progress.
if the spanish never conquered the philippines,the philippines will only have few ethnicities cebuano,tagalog,moro ethnics and ilocano,the other ethnic groups were preserved because of the reducciones of the spanish,which prevented them from being absorbed,i think it would be better if we had less of those ethnicities and the spanish did not conquer the philippines.
people in bicol are further subdivided to many ethnicities or what some call nations just that their languages are classified under the bikol sub-family,i think one province in bikol region is equals to one language/ethnicity in bicol and there is a bisakol area
i think this is why our areas are poor people less want to communicate and worse there are areas wherein cities have entirely different languages.
So ugly, you can't generalize all Spaniards because a group of lewd priests committed crimes against young women and little boys
... There are criminals in all countries!! Most Spaniards are honest people and followers of La Fiesta!
And about minorities. Did you ask them if they wanted to be "absorbed"?. Is that "absorved" an euphemism?
What more evidence can be more obvious that crab mentality among us Filipinos can never be reversed no matter how long it takes. For how long can the world laugh at us? Is this really the way we want our neighboring countries to identify us? We are moving forward to be a stronger nation in the 21st century but without a common language to be proud about? We lack the respect and we overlook the beauty of our 18 major dialects..............How sad.........really sad.
^^ This is really a valuable piece of information.
To be honest, the notion of "TAGALISTA" is really taken shape in this country.
First off, we're a centralized government where MOST of our taxes and MOST of our political policies are centered in Manila.
Next, our history is LARGELY KATAGALUGAN. It is often stated "Emilio Aguinaldo led the Philippine Revolution". In my opinion as an Ilonggo, this is a deep insult to our own history. We had our own share of the revolution and we had independence before them. The greatest insult to this is that they don't teach this to the regions.
Lastly, why do they teach "Filipino" (which is 99.99% Tagalog by the way) to non-Tagalogs when in fact they don't even teach the region's/province's vernacular. In fact as I talked with a friend from Zambales, the language of Zambal is dying out and slowly being replaced by Tagalog.
I really hope this stops. They really have to establish Federalism otherwise it would one big Katagalugan Republic that Aguinaldo (did I mention he killed the Supremo?) envisioned.
