You were close!
Gousto Doggu [or if you prefer dog'u]

What is the different between inu and doggu(i think inu is also dog)?
blatant
one's japaenese purely and other one is japanese pronunciation of 'dog," latter is right in this case.

when i check katakana it's:
ゴースト go-su-to
ドッグ do-shi-gu

so why u say it's doggu??

シ shi
ツ tsu
ッ kind of accent.For example, トップ toppu トプ topu
They are similar,but different.
bushido
you've got to look pretty close when it's typed, but in written japanese it is very obvious:
ツ ッ
see the difference? one is smaller than the other. If you see the smaller one next to another katakana, you should have a little pause , just before the other katakana (in speaking).

for example: ドッグ = doggu, spoken = DO---GU
but: ドイツ = doitsu

doggu is dog obiously, but doitsu means german or germany. Japanese is weird like that, where just the size of a character can transform the intenden word into something entirely different. icon_smile.gif

OK, im a japanese student so i know this stuff:

ゴ = Go
ー = prolonging of Go, so its like Goo if you know what i mean.. you pronounce the o longer.
ス= su
ト = to
First word = Goosuto

Second word:
ド = Do
ッグ = ggu (first katakana is small tsu, which means that the katakana that comes after is pronounced with double consonant (or whatever its called in english), the last katakana is gu, hence you get doggu.
= Doggu
Goosuto Doggu, gee, katakana is fun biggrin.gif

Inu is the japanese word for dog. When it comes to foreing names, movies, words in general and stuff like that, japanese uses the katakana alphabet.

since ghost dog is a foreign movie title they have chosen to just use katakana instead of translating the whole title.

i think that is an acceptable if not 100% accurate explanation
