On an imposing set in the middle of the beautiful Yalong Bay beach, right outside the Holiday Inn Resort Hotel, Ada De La Cruz's smile spoke a thousand words. The representative of the Dominican Republic had triumphed in this evening's Beach Fashion Show, the first of the Fast Track events at this year's Miss World Festival.

Tatana Kucharova, the reigning Miss World and one of the Beach Fashion Show judges, presented the trophy and the applause rang out from the watching crowd. Now Dominican Republic is guaranteed her place in the Semi-Final of the Miss World Pageant on Saturday 1 December, when the eyes of the world will be focused on the tropical island paradise that is Sanya.

Earlier in the evening, 106 contestants had been introduced to the audience in their beachwear as a breeze blew in from the South China Sea on another beautiful Sanya evening. The judges' first task was to pick 20 Semi-Finalists on a majority voting system. A tie for 20th place saw 21 contestants make the second round. They were the representatives of Austria, Belgium, Brazil, People's Republic of China, Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, Grenada, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Korea, Lebanon, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mexico, Mongolia, Philippines, Spain, Trinidad & Tobago, Ukraine and Venezuela.

From here, 5 finalists were chosen by the judges - People's Republic of China, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Lithuania and Mexico - and after a short but agonising wait, the top three places were announced. In third place was the People's Republic of China and in second place Jamaica, with Dominican Republic taking the highly coveted trophy.

"I was so nervous up there and so surprised when I was called the winner," said a beaming Ada De La Cruz. "I'm just so happy and I can't wait to call my mum to tell her that I won!"

When asked by Tianya, China's biggest online community and one of Miss World's media partners, if she had a secret for success in the Beach Fashion competition, Ada said: "I have eaten really healthily, trained hard and played a lot of sports." Well, Ada, your training paid off and you were thoroughly deserving of your title of Miss World Beach Beauty. Congratulations from everyone to Dominican Republic and to all the other finalists.

Miss World

This morning the Miss World contestants visited one of the Seven New Wonders of the World and the most famous landmark in China, the Great Wall.

There were gasps as it first appeared in view of the coaches carrying the Miss World contingent. The dramatic scene simply took the breath away as the Great Wall, built over hundreds of years to protect China from invading Huns, Mongols and other tribes, snaked its way up and down mountains and across valleys. Construction started as early as the 7th century BC and one could only marvel at how it was built.
