so far i only know that it is some demon from philippine folklore and is a meat-eater (in the night) that is disguised as a baby during the day
http://www.pantheon.org/articles/c/chanak.htmlhas anyone in here ever heard about this creature and what part of the philippines did this originate from?
i know there are more demonic creatures in philippine folklore....care to tell me more about them too?
maybe a picture of this chanak would be nice....
oh and when i said "walk-walk" (phonetic pronounciation) i meant nightmare or something close to that meaning.....i think forumwalker would know because he is visayan as well unless this is slang....

According to myths, Tiyanak are those unwanted babies who were aborted. Or, that they are babies who died without being baptized...
Tiyanak usually prey on mothers nearing birth and destroys the umbilical cord of the fetus... how they do it, i don't know... insufficient data, hehehe The umbilical cord supplies oxygen and food to the unborn baby, and once, it is destroyed and the fetus is still not born, then there is high chance of having still birth... or the fetus dies...
It is considered bad when the cries of a tiyanak is heard near the birthing mother and people in the house would begin praying or invoking spells to repel the tiyanak...
and i don't know the origin of this being... or where they originated... sowee
___
Simply a crying, adorable baby who turns monster. Popularized in generation X by an 80's movie, "Tiyanak" with the lead role played by Janice de Belen (it was even branded, "anak ni Janice"), this monster turns into baby to lure humans to them, thereafter eating the fooled person up.
According to an article by Neal Cruz, an Inquirer columnist, about the Philippine mythological creatures, the "tiyanak" lures the unwary into a forest with its cries until he gets lost. To get back in path, according to superstition, turn your shirt inside out and the spell will be broken.

It was in the story line of the film?

hey aki! maybe, i guess this shows in a work of fiction the prevalent stances of many filipino christian/moral stance on this subject, embodied and formed into a figure and movie to show and expose such feelings that abortion whether they are pro or con literally is something that must be address and be come upon by our society. that is my opinion on the belief that chanak's are the fallen cherubs of abortion

well, nowadays, it is only the people na nakatira sa mga probinsya ang naniniwala sa tyanak... siguro nga, pagpapahiwatig ito na malaking isyu ang pagpapalaglag ng sanggol sa sinapupunan.
nakikinikinita nyo ba ang hinaharap kung sakaling matuloy ang 2-child policy? it will eventually lead to legalization of abortion if ever...

i don't think that the two child policy will work, for one thing pi is very liberal, asian liberalism that is, considering our culture and our being westernized per say and our form of government. so implementation wise probably would not be too easy, i think having a more better education on sex and family planning, easiere access medically, better economy, less unemployment and poverty is what is really the solution. but it might work, but i don't think taking the easy way and coercing people to control their own personal choice in family life is really the answer, the real road might be harder but that is really where the gold lies i think.
