Agreed, but way I see it both China & NK are defined fascist states (dropping Anti-Communism theme).

Some common areas:
1. No election - Just one party
2. No freedom of speech
3. Slavery still exists
4. Anti-USA
5. have little care for its people
6. Red stars
7. Deep Russian connection
8. No religious freedom
9. Political policies
10. Culture - Same Communist theme

Differences:

1. Population - not even come close
2. Economy - not even come close
3. Language - not even come close
4. Leaders - one fat , other slim - not even come close
davee
Well, if China is as bad as you said, why would:

1. It is the hotest place in the world for investment
2. It has the fastest growng economy in the world
3. It has more multinational companies there than anywhere else in the developing world
4. It has the largest foreign reserve in the world
5. It has the 3rd largest GDP in the world (only after US and Japan)
6. It is one of the largest tourist attraction in the world.

As for the Korean specific issues:

1. It has the largest Korean populations in the world outside Korea
2. It has more Korean foreign students studying at Chinese unversities than any other nationalities
3. It has more Korean businessmen than another country in the world

As to no religious freedom, etc. well, there are a lot of churches in China.

Have you talked to your Korean brothers/sisters as to why they want to be in China?

Anyway, whether there is freedom or not it is up to the people living in China to decide. I think that most people in China are supportive of their government.

So don't let your jealousy and insecurity overtake your common sense.

China will be a power to be reckoned with. What about the tiny little Korea...., well, what I can I say, .... eventually it won't even be on par with a small province in China.

Only because of the huge potential market, resources and laborforce that China has available. Seriously, any country with that much land, population and resources is bound to get rich. Even the Russians are rebounding from the collapse of Soviet Union because of its readily available oil reserves.

QUOTE

Having churches doesn't mean anything when the government has control of those churches and the officials, as well as cracking down on people who they deem to be threatening to them.

QUOTE

Because everything in China is so damned dirt cheap and that you can get much more money by using the Chinese like slaves while giving them a few bucks a day?

For a Chinese not living in China, you seem to know a lot. That sure wasn't the case at the Tiananmen Square, where the "decision" made by the people was utterly crushed by tanks and APCs.

I didn't know calling someone a facist is supposed to be a compliment.

May be Hooker Hill is also a compliment.

If my recollection is correct, technically China & NK and even Russia are technically Fascist States, just look at anti-religious, corporation, robotic like society. I would say true face of NK and many another so-called communist nations, like wise China.

Where did you pull that figure out from, your @$$? The total population of Koreans and ethnic Koreans, combined, living in China totals around 2.5 million, with the ethnic Koreans, who have to identify themselves as Chinese because they can no longer go back to Korea due to cultural, financial and social barriers, taking up more than 2 million of the figure.

I'm going to assume as much as China did pre-Deng period.
crabdonut
Well the US considers North Korean government to be one of the worst in the world and has one of the worlds least human rights. You can't leave the country and the economy is crap so the government probably isn't doing a good job.

The Chinese government won't bother you unless you start something against the government like protest the Beijing Olympics or something. So overall the Chinese government is a lot better but could be a bit better.

I don't think you fully understand the policies of both China & NK regimes.
But I do agreed on NK regime is $hit and absolute fascist in nature.

To many westerners they are exactly same, the only difference is China is so massive and recently experience economic boom. Except North Korea is little more extreme. Sorry that how I see it now.
Suijen
Socially there's a lot more freedom. The trend is good.

Economically, there is definitely a lot more freedom to purchase what you want. Censorship still blocks out politically sensitive stuff, but other than that, it's usually okay. They banned Command and Conquer Generals because it made the PLA look silly, lol. "We are the Red Guard" in a bad accent. Good stuff.

Politically it has crawled, but in a decade time span there is a bit more freedom.

n.korea gov.
both equals to: telling their people what to do and how to do it...

as for economics, china's been rich...just the gov. doesnt want to waste money..yea, it sounds too simple and common, but thats how chinese people think..

as for why n .korea is in the shape its in for the past 70+ years, really i dont know much about cause its a closed country...

china is also a closed country, but since it was bashed on how it handled tiannamen sq. they have much to make up for that situate....

Hmmmm, we are discussing about Government not economy.

Both North Korean & Chinese PRC regimes have identical ideology, commi-style authoritarian system; pretty much same as Russian, Cuban and some cases Iran (minus commi). It's all about CONTROL & CONTROL & DON'T ASK & JUST DO AS TOLD.

I think a lot of Chinese members are confused with China, China is only communist state with capitalist style of economic management in the world, but China's economy is strictly under controlled by government. It isn't same as fully capitalized countries like Japan or USA.

Soon North Korea will try to emulate this, recently North Koreans are looking at Vietnamese style of economic management. Because of such small market & capitalization of North Korean economy, investors aren't looking at North Korea as FDI destination.

China have huge market size and not too mention it's massive population is drawing attentions from foreign investors.

In my opinion, North Korean should use their geographical location, skill & hard working labor force and Heavy Industrial capabilities to attract potential investors. Chinese style won't work for North Korea.

China open up around 1980s and experiencing FDI boom between 1990s~2000s.
NK regime should have learn from their Chinese brother, Kim IL Sung wanted his country go freakin "Juche" ideology and became hermit nation.

Kim's junior even made worse by arresting his political enemies and blocking cultural & trade exchanges thinking "Juche" ideology will save their arses.
Now, Kim junior and his advisers are realizing they are in deep trouble. So they are trying to play nice with others.
