Star Struck

Rainier Castillo

Rainier Castillo

Alvin Aragon

If luck remains on his side, 15-year-old Alvin Aragon might as well be the next rags-to-riches story in Philippine show business. The youngest in the family of 11, Alvin has been separated from all his siblings after their parents died. He has since lived with his aunt who is married but has no children. The rest of his brothers and sisters lived elsewhere, several of whom now have their own families in Canada.

Appearing on television has always been Alvin’s dream since he was young. Now that he is part of Starstruck’s select group of showbiz hopefuls, Alvin wishes to win the coveted GMA management contract so that he can “have the rest of his brothers and sisters under one roof again.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anton Dela Paz

At 17, Anton Dela Paz is already a self-confessed “sports addict” because he indulges in the adrenaline rush of basketball and motocross. He enjoys being athletic and would like to do comedy-action roles if ever he makes it in show business. Doing action comes with his sporty lifestyle and the comedy part would be relatively easy because he is used to clowning around with friends.

Anton admits that doing drama would be something new for him, but he is more than ready to face the challenge. When asked how he would internalize a scene where he needs to cry, he says he would most likely think of how much his parents are working hard for their family and think of how they encourage him to strive for a better future.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Christian Esteban

When 18-year-old Christian Esteban decided to stay in the Philippines and take up Mass Communications in a university in Baguio, he had another goal in mind: to be able to break into Philippine show business. Although born and raised in California, Christian was in the know of the latest in Philippine entertainment, for he had an aunt who owned a Filipino video store. The more he watched Filipino films on video, Christian found himself wanting to be part of it all and be more in touch with his heritage.

Now that he is a Starstruck finalist and a step closer to his goal, Christian is determined to do his best to succeed in his chosen career. This goal-oriented teenager would like to someday be another Rico Yan and make a difference in people’s lives. He believes that world peace can be achieved if “we deal with one mind at a time” and treat every person as a unique individual with different emotions and insights.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dion Joseph Ignacio

Seventeen-year-old Dion Joseph Ignacio openly admits that he has a “dramatic life.” He discloses that he hails from a poor family in Siniloan, Laguna. He could no longer afford schooling because his mother became the sole breadwinner after his father became ill and could no longer work. Being the eldest of five siblings, with the youngest being a three-year-old girl, Dion carries the tremendous responsibility of supporting his entire family.

This is why when a movie reporter spotted him in a resort in Pakil, Laguna and asked him to come to Manila and give showbiz a try, Dion eventually obliged. Although he admits that he still hasn’t overcome his shyness, he knows he is ready for the challenges of show business if only to survive.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mark Angelo Herras

When his father’s friend told him about Starstruck’s auditions, 16-year-old Mark Angelo Herras readily grabbed the opportunity to showcase his talents in dancing, rapping, and acting. Mark enjoys doing comedy and would like to be as versatile as Michael V. someday. He would also like to play contrabida roles and try to appear arrogant and intimidating.

The youngest of two boys, Mark lives with his father while his elder brother is with their mother. He says he doesn’t mind if his parents are separated because they still live in the same subdivision and are still in speaking terms with each other. A disciplined teenager who is often home before 9 p.m., Mark is determined to work hard so that he can save enough money to continue his studies.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rainier Joseph Castillo

Seventeen-year-old Rainier Joseph Castillo had only set his sight on being a commercial model, but now that he has made it to the select Starstruck Final 14 he is ready to pursue the path to stardom. Although financial problems had forced him to quit school, Rainier is motivated to do his best to help his mother and older sister. He doesn’t mind if his father left them when he was three years old because he has always had a strong-willed mother who raised him and his sister righteously. He is grateful that his mother always reminded them to count their blessings and not to be envious of what other people have.

If he does become one of GMA’s newest stars, Rainier wants to start in a youth-oriented program like Click and work his way up to more mature and challenging roles.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tyron Perez

Standing at 5’11” and tipping the scales at 155 lbs., 18-year-old Tyron Perez hails from Tarlac and is fond of kickboxing and basketball. Tyron has attended acting workshops under Peque Gallaga and Ann Villegas. He also appears in the upcoming movie Malikmata this December. The youngest in a brood of six, Tyron is determined to succeed in show business and follow the footsteps of his idol Christopher De Leon.

Tyron shares that in doing a dramatic scene where he needs to cry, he would mostly likely think back of the saddest moment in his life three years ago when his cousin died. He believes that this is the best way he can express the deep remorse needed for the scene.

Here are the profiles of the Female starstruck finalists:

Survivors - Female

Cristine Reyes

Fifteen-year-old Cristine Reyes wants to make a name for herself and be known for her own talents and capabilities. And prove herself she did when she auditioned for Starstruck and sang Mariah Carey’s “Hero” as an audition piece. She has since honed her other talents in preparation for a stiffer competition as she competes with her fellow Starstruck finalists.

Cristine is determined to win and be able to help her family. According to her, she is willing to give up everything because she is already “committed to show business.” As a start, she would prefer doing comedy roles and probably be part of Bubble Gang and other sitcoms. In doing drama, she prefers contrabida roles because she finds it a challenge to internalize intimidating scenes. Cristine describes herself as “simple yet dangerous.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jade Lopez

Making it to Starstruck’s Final 14 is a dream come true for 15-year-old Jade Lopez. Having attended acting workshops since she was 12 years old, she had long set her mind on being part of the glitzy world of show business. Apart from her cameo roles in several television shows, the well-chiseled face of this Seventeen Magazine Best Female Model may already be familiar to some as she has also appeared in print ads for several clothing lines and women’s magazines. Recently, she appeared in Parokya Ni Edgar’s “Mr. Suave” music video.

Jade excels in acting, dancing and modeling and loves to collect figurines, watch TV and listen to the radio. When asked what particular aspect of show business appeals to her most, she admits that she loves the popularity it entails and that it is the career she wants to pursue for as long as she can.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jennylyn Mercado

Sixteen-year-old Jennylyn Mercado may be a familiar face to some as she has already played the role of Rio Locsin’s favorite student in the recently concluded GMA teledrama Ang Iibigin Ay Ikaw as well as in the weekly series Nagmamahal, Manay Gina, where she appeared three times. She has also done commercials and print ads for a telecom company, a cologne brand and a local magazine.

Aside from her product endorsements and occasional TV appearances, Jennylyn is also an exceptional singer who performed regularly in two bars prior to her inclusion in Starstruck’s Final 14. Jennylyn admits that she is more comfortable in doing offbeat roles such as being a contrabida because it is where she can internalize easily, although it does not necessarily mean she is villainy in real life. She says she is the “cool and calm type” who is friendly and gets along well with people.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Katrina Halili

Call it destiny or a stroke of luck, but seventeen-year-old Katrina Halili’s propensity to hang out in Eastwood was what brought her to the doorstep of stardom. It was during Starstruck’s location search in Eastwood that Katrina decided to audition, and the rest, as they say, is history. Now that she is part of the Starstruck Final 14, she admits that it is one opportunity she would not want to waste. She knows that the wealth of experience Starstruck gives her is a far cry from the exposure she got as a finalist in a beauty contest back in Palawan.

Young as she is, Katrina is very conscious about her looks and takes great pains in maintaining her slim figure. She goes to the gym and even takes crash diets whenever she thinks she has gained weight. Although relatively shy, Katrina was able to pass the Starstruck auditions by her looks and singing talent. If ever she wins and becomes an actress someday, she would want to do sexy comedy roles ala Rufa Mae Quinto.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nadine Samonte

Fifteen-year-old Nadine Samonte started ramp modeling at the age of 13 and won the title of Ms. Glamour as a student. Aside from her mestiza looks, she believes that what clinched her inclusion in the Starstruck Final 14 is her singing talent, which she has honed since she started taking voice lessons at the age of 10. She has been invited to perform in several out-of-town singing engagements and has also appeared in several print ads and commercials.

Nadine believes that she can be another Jolina Magdangal because she can be a versatile performer. She doesn’t mind doing teenybopper roles at first but would like to mature into more dramatic roles in the future. In doing drama, she says she would want to go into the character and delve into the sad moments in her life, such as the time when her father left them and returned to Germany for good last January. Nadine says that in order to emerge as the Starstruck winner, she would bank on her “x-factor” and self-confidence.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sheena Yvette Halili

Out of the four friends who auditioned for Starstruck at Robinsons Pampanga, only 16-year-old Sheena Yvette Halili made it to the Final 14. Sheena recalls that she was really determined to appear on TV although her parents were against the idea at first. She has joined and won several pageants in Pampanga and has modeled for different apparels.

The eldest of three girls, Sheena grew up trendy, “kikay” and very sociable. She discloses that she used to idolize Donna Cruz and would reenact the actress-singer’s scenes in front of the mirror. She takes pride in having made it to the Starstruck Final 14 because it is one great achievement for her. She plans to stick it out in show business even if it means constantly reinventing herself.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yasmien Kurdi

Fifteen-year-old Yasmien Kurdi started joining singing contests at the young age of three. At seven, she was doing monologue acting in Kuwait where her family moved following her father’s assignment there and even got to perform as Maria Clara in a zarzuela play hosted by the Kuwaiti-Filipino community in celebration of Philippine Independence.

Yasmien prefers doing drama because, according to her, she cries easily. Just thinking of her financial problems brings tears to her eyes, she says. Her father has long left her and her mother and she grew up under the care of her grandfather, who died three years ago. If not for her modeling, she wouldn’t have any means to continue her studies now. But she is determined to survive. She believes that she has what it takes to be a well-rounded artist who can be efficient in drama and be equally effective in a variety show as well.
