Vientiane, July 26 (VNA) - Laos and Japan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on trade and investment incentives between the two countries.

Under the agreement, signed between Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), 50 kinds of Lao silk products, which meet international quality standards, will be exported to Japan and other markets in the world.

Lao silk products are attractive and have a competitive edge on the same products from other countries. Japan plans to introduce Lao silk products to Japanese and international markets in the future, said the director of JETRO.

Additionally, Japan will organise exhibitions for Lao silk products in Tokyo and other cities in Japan to develop the trademarks for such products.

Laos exported about 2.7 million USD worth of silk products in 2002-03 and 7.5 million USD in the first half of this year, according to the statistics of the Lao handicraft industries group.-Enditem
