There are many ways to spell his "roman"zed name yet only one true way. As for his work good. He was an accomplished wealthy man who looked like my father so he is cool.

Rabindranath Tagore was a writer, poet, thinker, philosopher par excellence. He was also Asia's first Nobel laureate. He was born in a very wealthy Brahmin family, so he had lot of time for literary things. People don't say it openly but he was a bit pro British in many things. But in many other things he also used to criticize the British. In his later years many things happened which made him very anti-British. No one can forget him Visva Bharati University founded and nurtured by him is a very famous university. And songs composed by Tagore known as Rabindro songit is very popular especially among Bengalis.

Thakur can be Hindi or Bengali it is the same thing in both the languages. Thakur is a last name. Tagore is the anglecised form of Thakur.

Can someone give me the non-anglicized version of his name?

What i understand from my reading of his life is that he's always first been a humanist. He is anti-ultra nationalism, anti-caste, anti-any kind of movement that restricts the Freedom of Mind for everybody.

I think I would like to read his writings, but I can't find anything published by him in our local bookstores. Is he out of print or something?

What do you mean by that? His real name was Rabindranath. His full name was Rabindranath Tagore.

Actually people who had lot of interaction with Britishers some of them changed their last names so that British people won't have a hard time pronouncing it. Like there were lots of people working in government offices during British Raj with surnames like Bandopadhyay, Chattopadhyay etc. Pronouncing them was like tongue twisting for their British officers. So the British officers started calling them Banerjee, Chatterjee. So Bandopadhyay became Banerjee and Chattopadhyay became Chatterjee. All these four types are in use and they mean the same thing.

Likewise Rabindranath Thakur became Rabindranath Tagore.

I am not aware that he was anti-ultra nationalism. But I have never seen anyone criticising Tagore in any form. People always have good things to talk about him. Tagore was/is a great influence in Bengali society. Ask a Bengali they can tell you more about him.

That's a good thing. Jingoists are ignorant and annoying.

Actually, "Rabindranath" is also his Anglicized name. His actual Bengali name is "Robindronath Thakur".

He influenced me by bringing me great national pride, from the national anthem of India.

Rabindranath is when you pronounce this word in Hindi. When you pronounce the same word in Bengali, it becomes Robindronath. So my friend you are incorrect.
