Auto : Naza to distribute Peugeot cars

By Zuraimi Abdullah Published: 2007/12/17

BusinessTimes

NAZA Group will start distributing Peugeot cars in January next year with three models initially and an expected full-year sales volume of 3,000 units, its chief said yesterday.

The group - which distributes vehicles under various brands such as Naza and Kia - also expects to close 2007 with overall sales of 50,000 units, chairman and chief executive officer Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin SM Amin said.

Nasimuddin yesterday said the exclusive franchise rights for Peugeot vehicles in Malaysia was signed with its French principal this month, taking over the job previously done by Cycle & Carriage Bintang Bhd.

Two of the initial three Peugeot models for immediate launch will be the new 308 and 207, Nasimuddin told reporters after the launch of Naza Forza compact car by Second Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop in Kuala Lumpur.

Nasimuddin said the group, through Naza Corp Sdn Bhd, will launch a brand new car and a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) under the Naza brand in 2008.

"Naza Corp will launch two new models in the MPV and B segments next year," he said, adding that the B segment car will be unveiled first by June.

He expects overall industry sales to improve in 2008 with some RM10 billion in extra money coming from the recent move to further relax the Employees Provident Fund withdrawals by members.

Nasimuddin also expects production at the group's plant in Gurun, Kedah, to be optimised in 2008. Its other plant in Bertam, Penang, is set to start production in 2009, both for the domestic and export markets.

Meanwhile, the group expects to sell by the end of next year 11,000 units of Naza Sutera, which has been rebranded as Naza Forza.

"The Forza has been launched based on the strong feedback from our 6,000 existing Sutera customers," Nasimuddin.

With Italian design house Pininfarina's "DNA" and 73 per cent local content, the Forza had been enhanced to improve its drivability, quality and reliability, he added.

The "improved, old" Sutera features new front lamps, and larger and more visible rear lights, besides a new audio system and interior fabric and colours.

The Forza sells at less than RM40,000.

Shalahuddin SM Amin.

KUALA LUMPUR: Naza Group is still keen to be a strategic partner for Proton Holdings Bhd and is awaiting the government’s decision on the matter, the group’s chairman and chief executive officer Tan Sri SM Nasimudin SM Amin said.

“We have submitted a proposal and we will wait for the government (to decide on the proposal),” he told reporters yesterday when asked by reporters on Naza’s interest in Proton.

He was speaking to reporters after launching Naza’s latest model, the Forza, here yesterday. Second Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop witnessed the launch.

It is believed that Nasimuddin was referring to Naza’s proposals which were much earlier submitted to the Cabinet Committee on Automotive chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Naza and DRB-Hicom Bhd had submitted their own respective proposals to form strategic tie-ups with Proton at the same time the government was having talks with foreign automotive players, Volkswagen AG and General Motor Inc.

Najib recently said the government might still consider a partnership with local players despite the termination of talks with the foreign players late last month.

Naza Secures Peugeot Franchise

by Aznita Ahmad Pharmy, 18 Dec 2007 12:31 PM

KUALA LUMPUR: Naza Group of Companies has secured a sole distributorship deal to market Peugeot cars in the country, Naza group chairman and chief executive officer, Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin SM Amin said.

He said Automobiles Peugeot of France (Peugeot) and Naza Corporation Sdn Bhd had signed the agreement earlier this month and the exclusive franchise agreement was renewable every two years.

“The agreement will be effective Jan 1, 2008,” Nasimudin told reporters after launching Naza’s latest model, the Forza, here yesterday, which was witnessed by Second Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop.

He added that the group would announce further details next month.

Naza Group previously collaborated with Peugeot to jointly manufacture the Bestari model, which was launched in May 2006. The agreement comes as an extension of the two companies’ cooperation.

It also follows the termination of the sole distributorship agreement between Peugeot and Cycle and Carriage Bintang Bhd, which ends on Dec 31 this year, after a five-year partnership.

Meanwhile, Nasimudin said Naza targeted to sell 11,000 Forza cars, in both local and international markets by the end of next year.

He said Naza would export the Forza to Nepal, Bangladesh, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia and Thailand. Forza, a replacement model for the Sutera, has a 1,075cc engine and is priced at RM38,000 per unit.

The car comes with a two-year service package and three-year warranty.

Nasimudin said Naza would introduce new models in the “MPV” and “B” segments in mid-2008. He said its Gurun plant would be operating at its optimum capacity next year and that the Bertam plant would start production in 2009, both for the domestic and export markets.

Naza Sutera launched in Singapore

January 06, 2008 05:10 PM Author: Chips

Dato' SM Shalahuddin SM Amin, President of the Naza Group, with John Ng, MD of NASCAR, at the recent launch of the Sutera in Singapore

The Naza Sutera will challenge the Hafei Lobo, the model from which it was adapted, in the Singapore market now that Naza has begun selling it there. While the Lobo is imported from China, the Sutera comes from a Malaysian plant in Pekan, Pahang, and because of the increasing localization of parts, quality would differ - with observers saying that the Sutera is better.

“All Naza cars undergo a complete series of stringent Quality Control checks at every stage of the manufacturing and assembly process to ensure that every unit adheres to a strict manufacturing code, guaranteeing that it meets the standards of a world-class car,” assured Naza's Group Chairman and Founder, Tan Sri Dato' Seri Utama SM Nasimuddin SM Amin.

He added that the 1.1-litre Sutera (now renamed Forza in Malaysia) is already being exported to Nepal (along with the Bestari) and after Singapore, it will soon be launched in Bangladesh. Other export markets for Naza will include Thailand, Indonesia and Brunei.

Hafei Lobo from China is also sold in Singapore

“We intend to make the Naza Sutera the Singaporean's car of choice and give its competitors a run for their money and we have committed over S$10 million in operations, customer care, technical expertise, workshop infrastructure and dedicated equipment,” said John Ng, Managing Director of Nascar Pte Ltd, official distributor of Naza in the republic. Most spare parts are manufactured in Malaysia offering an assurance of immediate availability.

Mr Ng expects the Sutera ‘to find immense popularity in Singapore’ owing to several crucial factors. “The first is that the car is acclimatized to the tropics. Secondly, it is designed for congested and long haul Malaysian roads, similar to Singapore's. It will appeal to the large emerging group of young executives with its sporty look and styling and for those aspiring to stand out from the crowd. Its low appetite for fuel promises excellent mileage. And lastly, while compact in design it is surprisingly roomy for a family of 5,” he explained.

Nascar is a subsidiary of The J & J Royal Group Pte Ltd. which also distributes Perodua and TD 2000 models from Malaysia as well as Golden Dragon luxury coaches, cargo and passenger commercial vehicles from China.

Nasim sasar jual 3,000 kereta Peugeot

SHAH ALAM 15 Feb. - Nasim Sdn. Bhd.

Naza World Introduces the Nissan GT-R

Friday, April 11, 2008 By YS Khong

The Nissan Skyline GT-R, a 3.8 litre monster of a sports car, is now available in Malaysia, courtesy of Naza World, the leading importer of exotic cars. At a preview organized for the media a couple of days ago, Naza World proudly displayed one such unit at the Tropicana Golf and Country Club in Petaling Jaya.

I would have given almost anything to have a go at it, but sad to say, the car was so precious that if you so much as walked near the car, someone would be peering over your shoulder to see that you didn’t accidentally scratch it or something.

Well, I must say that it is a beauty of a car, looking really masculine, and mean to boot. It is a two plus two, with a tiny boot at the back, maybe enough to carry a medium sized suitcase and an overnight bag, but that’s about it. Anyway, the Nissan GT-R isn’t about boot space, and neither is it about seating capacity.

It is all about performance and handling, about driving pleasure and getting the most out of life, that is, if you don’t lose it by having an argument with a wall or something like that, which is what will probably happen if an untrained driver leaves his brains at home and goes out with the GT-R. Somewhere else on this site, you can catch a glimpse of one that lost an argument with a solid and immovable object, thanks to one of our readers who posted it for all to see.

With a 3.8 litre V6, variable valve timing, and twin turbochargers, the GT-R is all muscle where it matters. It translates into 480PS at 6,400 RPM, and enormous torque of 588Nm at between 3,200 and 5,200 RPM. With full-time 4WD, acceleration from zero to 100 km/h is done is 3.5 seconds, and top speed is rated at 310 km/h. The engines are all built by hand, and the aluminium pistons are size-matched to each cylinder bore. The lubrication system is a high-performance pressurized system that ensures consistent oil pressure at all times. (For the uninitiated, a normal car has a pump that pumps oil to the top of the cylinder head, and gravity brings it down to the sump again).

A six-speed dual clutch gearbox with three gear select modes, depending on driver requirement, is standard. Traction to the rear wheels can vary from zero to one hundred percent, while drive to the front wheels varies from zero to fifty percent, all depending on the yaw angle of the car. For example, during harsh acceleration, weight is transferred to the rear end, and this makes the system put more power to the rear wheels. Theoretically, the GT-R becomes a 4WD car that behaves like a RWD. This feature is also a part of the electronic traction control system. Having said earlier that the GT-R can be a lethal weapon in the wrong hands, it is also idiot-proofed to some extent, so much so that even a lousy driver can still drive well in it. Of course, in the same vein, an excellent driver would look like a F1 driver in the GT-R.

The brakes are humongous Brembos for the front and rear, and fit snugly within the 20 –inch wheels. Stopping is of no issue.

Well, I could go on and on, but let’s save something for the day when somebody might offer one to me for a test. Until then, if you have RM728, 888 to spare, give me a call, and I will take you personally to sign up your order.

KL to have one of the world's biggest Ferrari and Maserati showrooms

By Shannon Teoh

PETALING JAYA, March 19 – Naza Italia will open what is possibly one of the largest Ferrari and Maserati centres outside of Italy at the end of the month with the launch of its "4S centre" for the two luxury marques.

Naza Italia Sdn Bhd, the sole local distributor and importer for the two sports luxury brands under Italian manufacturer Fiat, will be opening the RM10 million modern "sales, service, systems and spare-parts" centre at its sprawling Naza World Petaling Jaya headquarters.

The centre will combine a two-level showroom with a service centre that will take up more than twice the floor space of the showroom.

The showroom will itself house more than just the latest and most current models. It will feature an owners lounge with full facilities for Maserati owners, as well as members of the Ferrari Owners Club to enjoy.

Collectively called the Naza Italia Lifestyle Centre, it will be open to all to view the million-ringgit cars on display as well as browse through an extensive array of merchandise.

"The new centre will be one of the largest facilities outside Italy because what we are delivering to Malaysia is something different from other importers, a true brand ownership experience," Naza Group chief executive officer SM Faisal SM Nasimuddin had said when the project was announced.

To date, over 400 Ferraris costing upwards of a million ringgit each have been sold in Malaysia, making it the premier luxury sports car brand in the country.

On March 31, the King himself will officiate the opening of the centre.

Naza upgrades staff skills with Motorola University

The Naza Group of Companies wants to move from being a family owned institution of management to that of an organization of 23 companies adhering to a multinational organization culture of focusing on improvements.

The latest in a series of steps taken is an effort to “upgrade” its human resources or staff - a signing with Motorola University, where 1,000 of the Naza Group’s employees will be trained and developed to improve their skills focusing on increasing productivity and revenue. The training will be provided by Motorola University based on programs that Motorola has developed on the way of becoming a Fortune 500 company.

Naza will offer these programs to employees of all 23 Naza companies under SM Faisal, which will include leadership development, lean manufacturing, customer driven total solutions and the Motorola Six Sigma Program series.

There are many big companies who are actually family-owned but are managed and run by trained professionals. One example very close to Naza is the BMW group, which has been majority (about 46%) owned by the Quandt family since the 50s. It is a proven formula that works.

Naza to assemble ASEAN Peugeot 207 Sedan in Gurun from October 2010

Peugeot and Naza signed an MoU for the assembly of the Peugeot 207 Sedan in Paris today. Naza’s plant in Gurun will be the production hub for the 207 Sedan for the ASEAN region from October 2010 onwards. For now, the Gurun plant will be the only right hand drive 207 Sedan assembler in the world. A production of 18,000 units a year is planned.

The 207 Sedan is essentially an updated 206 Sedan based on the 206 chassis. Previous stories revealed that it will be offered with a 1.6 liter engine, which is up from the 1.4 liter found in the Naza 206 Bestari.

The project is referred to internally by Naza as the T33 Project. Naza is the current franchise holder for Peugeot here in Malaysia under its company Nasim Sdn Bhd. They’ve made a name for offering excellent value for money pricing for locally assembled cars such as the 308 and the 407, something that is really unusual with Continental makes here in Malaysia.

Ever since taking over the Peugeot franchise, Peugeot sales in Malaysia have risen from 748 units for the whole of 2008 to the current figure of 2758 units as of August 2009.

Naza to assemble another Peugeot model locally

By CHOI TUCK WO

PARIS: Naza Automotive Manufacturing Sdn Bhd will produce a new entry level Peugeot car, codenamed T33, for the Malaysian and export markets next year.

Its joint group executive chairman S.M. Nasaruddin S.M. Nasimuddin said Malaysia would be the only country to produce the right-hand-drive model.

He added that the T33 would be launched in Malaysia in the third quarter of next year and production would begin a month or two before that.

“We’re looking at producing 6,000 units in the first year for the local market,” he told Malaysian journalists after a memorandum of understanding signing ceremony between himself and Automobiles Peugeot president Jean-Marc Gales here on Wednesday.

The ceremony was witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who was on a working visit to France.

The T33 model will be assembled at Naza’s Gurun plant in Kedah that has a capacity to produce 55,000 units annually.

Positioned as an entry level Peugeot, the T33 will join the nine existing Peugeot variants currently available in Malaysia. It is seen as a first step towards an increased Peugeot presence in Asean, using Malaysia as its base.

Nasaruddin said the price had not been finalised but it would be appealing to Malaysians wanting to buy a continental car in a particular segment.

He said there was still a lot of buying power in Malaysia despite the economic recession, with the people “spending money on the right products at the right time.”

In fact, he said, sales of Peugeot cars in Malaysia rose from 748 units last year to 2,758 as of August this year, a jump of 300%.

“We hope to close the year with 4,000 sales,” he said, adding that Naza expected the T33 model to contribute to even higher sales in the third quarter of next year and beyond.

Nasaruddin also said Naza was currently in talks with Peugeot to develop another model in Malaysia, six months after the launch of the T33.
