Yeah i think manado/minahasa people of north sulawesi got lots of similarities with filipinos. it's just one hour by plane from manado to davao in mindanao. from indonesian island of miangas (las palmas) one can see the mountains of mindanao in the horizon.
btw, are filipinos allowed to eat rat as well?

wow those pics are kinda gruesome but that's no problem because if ya gotta survive, ya gotta survive. i mean, here you have meat that doesn't need to graze around and produce 10,000 tons of methane fart a year and smell like crap noo no. hehe darn them tasty cows...

the Batak Toba and North Sulawesi ethnic people eating dog there is nothing to do with survival. They sell it openly in their eating house they call it lapo tuak. Indeed the price of a plate of dog meat more expensive than chicken. Some high profile person of batak happily still eat it.
well, eventhough most indoensian does not eat dog but this is part of habitual batak toba and north sulawesi habitual and as part of Indonesian as bigger frame. I am not quiet sure what's the stories behind this.
like or dislike got to live with it.
The annoying things is I kept losing my dog if there is batak live near by our place. The big problem is some times the one who stole my dog is not the batak himself, it could be somebody else and sell it to batak.
Do you guys think Indonesian should ban this habitual? remember this is not about survival? the price of a plate of dog meat more expensive than full plate of chicken?

I don't know whether it's true.. but it is said that black dog with black tongue is highly priced.
My friend's dog was kidnapped because it fit these charateristics.

there should be a law where you can not kidnap someone elses doggy! you should put on the dog a bomb collar so that anyone try to take it out to cooking him they blow up because if the doggy gonna die and go into someone stomach then you can not give them any satisfaction of their wrong doing!!

yeah man i agree with you, also mostly dog belong to somebody else. Very rare now to see dog roaming around freely without somebody claim belong to it.
I think indonesia goverment should ban this habitual unless Batak and Minahasa ethnic people can produce dog farming just special for dog meat to consume.

That's a great idea! Let there be no more dog-kidnapping for the sake of traditional food..

Yes, that's fair solution, They still can preserve their habitual if we can not say this as culture.
Only perhaps animal loving society won't want to be understood about this Batak and Minahasa habitual.

I thought "saksang" was a traditional batak meal made with pork or wild pork... I'm half batak and half sunda... and dog eating is a very rare habit. I see a lot of abandonned dogs in indonesian streets even though it's not a reason to eat them. I don't think a law against dog eating is necessary overall there are a lot of more important problems in Indonesia... However, i think there is a law against dog stealings no ??
Anyway guys, i feel sorry for your dogs, because i also have one, and i don't want to see him in a BBQ !!!

ive tried dog but not rat...i heard it is quite good...i dont know about bats. i think these meats are considered a delicacy in most of the places where they are eaten? well, in korea dog meat is one of those specialty items...the pictures above are pretty graphic and unappetizing though...i think just cuz they are whole so it reminds me of a carcass rather than food...probably good in soup or at least cut up.
