Are there any nations from the same "blood line" that can't stand each other? I don't really know the the history between India and Pakistan and China vs Taiwan, but I know enough that a lot of people from these two countries don't see eye to eye on a lot of things. Some people here don't consider "Taiwan" as a seperate nation, but just for the sake of debate let say Taiwan is a seperate nation. I used to work for a Taiwanese company and met a few Taiwanese who consider themselves as a distinct people from the mainland Chinese.

So you guys in the know, give a brief rundown of the history between these two countries or any countries from the same blood line that don't see eye to eye.

I met a few people who said they were Taiwanese, I'm not sure how that pans out. HKers seem to have a different identity too since I met a lot of people who identified themselves as that. Another interesting part of the world where something like this would play out is Ireland/N. Ireland.

You're right. In the case of Ireland/N. Ireland and India/Pakistan the dividing line seems to be influenced more by religious differences, then say China and Taiwan where politics is a bigger factor. But then again, religion and politics is pretty much the same thing.

What you say is pretty much true. Sadly this is pretty much the state of Asians right now.
It goes back to my topic post on border disputes.

Maybe in another hundred years or so Asia can have some sort of truce and unity like the European Union (EU) has.
At least Asia didnt have to go through two World Wars.
I'm all for the unity of Asia.

i wouldn't say pakistanis and indians are of the exact same blood, it's true some border area are the same but pakistanis are kind of middle eastern while indians are south asian. and they also differe on culture and religion.

the situation is different for taiwan - china cause it just political.

WW II,China and Japan joined this war, against each other.Other Asian countries didn't join, because they are colonies.
I don't think we need an Asian Union, but I do think east Asians can do this, because we have same culture like Europeans have same culture.

The Pakistanis you are probably referring to are the Pashtun and Balochi minorities, who are more closely related to Afghans and Iranians. On the other hand, Pakistan's Punjabi majority and the Sindhi and Kashmiri minorities are more closely related to Indians.

An Asian Union would be too much to handle. It would be more realistic to have regional unions in East Asia, Southeast Asia, and South Asia. Well, Southeast Asia already has ASEAN, but it's about time East Asia and South Asia also start building their own unions, but that probably won't be possible unless neighbouring countries are willing to get along with each other (i.e. India & Pakistan, China & Taiwan, North Korea & South Korea, etc.)

Indians and Pakistanis are from the same stock. Pakistanis are definitely South- Asians. Middle-Easteners are people from Arabian peninsula and nearby regions. I also consider Afghans as South-Asians as well.

Actually South-Asia already have it's own union called SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation). It consists of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives, Bhutan and Afghanistan.
