I was reading Architectureal Digest while waiting in my dentist's clinic this afternoon. I came across an article about Shiv Niwas. The place is truly beautiful! It's a perfect mixture of Asian architecture with European interior design. It's so nice to know that historic buildings like that palace is now being used as a hotel. The place is preserved and enjoyed by people both local and foreign.
Here in the Philippines, a lot of old buildings are buldozed in order to give way to newer infrastructures [which I think is sad].
How does India preserve it's heritage sites? It's an admittedly poor country so preservation must be causing a lot of debate in terms of cost and practicality, to name some. Are old palaces like this more likely to be turned into luxurious hotels?
