I live in Vegas, and sad to say. Our Filipino restaurants are simply not up to par with other restaurants. We don't even have a Fine Dining place. Sure, we have a Jollibee, Goldilocks, Red Ribbon, Chowking and all that, but they're not what I call authentic Filipino.
I'm also from Cebu, and all the Filipino food places I've sampled don't have what I'm used to.

This thread is for Sharing your experiences in Filipino Cuisine. I'll give share some of Cebu's best dishes, restaurants, and all that good stuff.

Food

In many restaurants we eat rice packed in these little weaved pouches, its called puso.

We serve it with almost anything from Barbecue(meat on sticks), lechon, roast chicken,

We Cebuanos are fanatical about skewering or more popularly known as Barbecue

We all love Halo-Halo, but I like my Buko Pandan and that thing in the bottom I forgot its name but its really good or a mango for desert.

Places

Laguna Garden Cafe is one of the premier restaurants for Authentic Filipino Fine Dining.

Some of these dishes are not exclusive to Cebu, BTW (The pics are Fresh Lumpia, crispy kangkong, lechon kawali and calamares)
locations are soon to open in Manila, Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro.

They serve the catch of day right there in the restaurant, you have your pick, and they cook it up.

Its great place to have lunch when your spending the day in the beach with your Family and Friends. Very Authentic, dont you agree?

Lighthouse Restaurant

Thats the interior, all Cebuano crafted furtinure

I don't know what that is, but it looks good. I think thats pork belly underneath, so good.
Anyway, I can't seem to find any more pictures, but what I can tell you is that its a really cool place, great Filipino dishes, and a band plays old Filipino Music(kinda like a Mariachi but with barong tagalog as uniforms)

Golden Cowrie

First of, I do not know them.

Feast!

So much more. I'm sure other places have a wealth of colonary delights too.

Ohh I'm currently obsessed with Braza de Mercedes and Piaya!

I want more Piaya . . . . .

Lets keep it authentic. Jollibee, Greenwich, Chowking, Red Ribbon, its all very commercialized.

Where do you go to school? I used to go to Cebu City Science High. Every now and then, we would just buy a bunch of roasted chickens from a side street vendor, barbecue, some puso(hanging rice), 2 liter cokes, and have a good time eating in the classroom or in the grass at the campus. Cebu is one of the few places in the Philippines were Barbecue has really taken off. The food is what I miss most of all, well, after my relatives, wait, yeah.

Anyone here familiar with the TV show "Tablescapes"? Every week is a different province visited and they feature its local cusine, too. Grabe, kakagutom yung mga pagkain na nafi-feature. Loved the episode on Iloilo.

When I visited Cebu, I came across "tago-angkan". It's basically the chicken's womb with eggs [both developed and not] packed inside then grilled with barbecue sauce. Pictures:

The eggs are first boiled then stuffed into the chicken's placenta:

Then grilled:

That was my first time to taste and see this kind of food. If you don't enjoy eggs, stay away from this one. embarassedlaugh.gif
