Do malay in Singapore receiving a 'special priority' compare to their counterpart in Malaysia,....

( Malaysia)
In order for the goverment to encourage & adhoc more malay to own house/properties,the rate of the new house is lower down by 7%....perhaps that should be more topic than this.

(Singapore)
As a citizen in Singapore, what would be the priority given by the goverment?
singapak2
^ Not at all!! We are all treated fairly except in some areas which i dont want to say. We pay the same school fees etc etc..

And non-Chinese in Singapore, finds difficulty looking for job because many employers want Chinese speaking employees.. So, the Malays and Indians are left with unwanted job, however not all companies want Chinese speaking. FYI, most of the companies who want Chinese speaking employees actually DONT NEED chinese speakers for example, technician.
kumanddie
What a big discrimination. Only colonial do that.
Armageddon
Reffering back to Singapak2's elaboration,:-...It seems this is a very common happening everywhere,....not just Singapore, but the world as a whole.

Sometimes i feel Malaysia providing far more than enough for the malay & as a result of this they become solely depend on govermrnt on almost everything.....

Its like a pampered child which will never grow up & fully depend on the parents.....what a crap

dei mamat....u dunno dun answer la kawan. Singapore malays still are subsidized in their school fees. Check out how much your dad pays for your school fees compared to non-malays in singapore

as for discrimination....not really if you work in MNCs

Come to my line of work - engineering & construction ...that is the only industry that doesnt look at the colour of the skin

They don't. SG practice meritocracy. That's their policy.

As for MY, we've 'selective policies'.

SG & MY differences are expected, much like apples & oranges.

Ya go home laugh.gif , on weekends JB town is stranded becasue of the traffic jams leading back to Singapore. Even the buses don't run and taxis won't go into town, or across town for that matter.

So the only thing JB-ians can do on a Sunday afternoon is stay home. embarassedlaugh.gif

Is there anything good to eat in JB????

My mum has a massage in JB for $40RM for 1 hour, she comes to your house. Cheap huh?

Wow $98 is in Singapore is expensive by Singapore standards, comparable to Australia, even taking into account the currency exchange.

Good food in JB hmmmm, I know where to go but I don't know the names of the places laugh.gif .

The best ever mee rebus is in Taman Sri Tebrau, a shop called Zainal's opposite the Sacred Heart Cathedral along Jalan Kris. I've been going there for the last 25 years. Their nasi padang is also pretty good. http://sg.streetdirectory.com/malaysia/joh...el_site_181478/

Nahhh, they go to other Johorean district like Kota Tinggi or even Pontian, because price of items much cheaper mahhh compared to JB ... since JB traders hike price on sundry products that Sporeans buy, in order to maximise profits.

You know on Sundays I just stay at home. We live in Pelangi and we went to visit my grandparents grave near Taman Perling one Sunday. Took us nearly 2 hours to drive back. The traffic with the persisting roadworks, I couldn't believe the Jam.

1st...dun listen to proto....he is seriously stereotyping

Need to take a boat to Batam City....from Harbour Front....there are 3 operators BatamFast, Penguin and Wavemaster. Batamfast and Penguin older boats and goes to Batam Centre...longer by 15 min. If you take wavemaster...its 45 minutes to new terminal in the heart of the city for a return ticket of $36...that is dec 07 price...I hear there is a price hike since new year. Boat leaves singapore/batam every hour....so no problem catching one

Arrive in harb bay....take taxi that cost you around Rp30,000 to anywhere in batam city aka nagoya. I think you better stay in Planet Holiday hotel....cost you around S$90 a nite. My corp rate gives you $70. Its the tallest building in Nagoya...25 storeys I think. Its a 4 star property...dunno why they never get 5 star rating.....but there is a problem with the AC....its centralised...so when you off the AC....the louver still does not stop the AC to flow into your room....so every morning...you can see many people wearing a jumper... better try harmoni hotel then better.....but I prefer Formosa Hotel ...its a 3 star property but I like it there cuz everyone knows me and walking distance to anywhere....

For mustika ratu...everybody knows where it is....but there is a new branch in batam centre....havent try yet. If you go on Saturday....a bit crowded with many singaporean. Martha Tillar is another option but its strictly for ladies. But the place not so good.....I tried martha tillar in surabaya at the colonial hotel...forgot the name already.....but its expensive. Even Planet holiday has spa...but its expensive. I tried bali, bintan (damn expensive), malaysia, singapore ...etc....mustika ratu still the best and cheapest. Do rewards the ladies abt Rp50,000 after the massage you. There are many packages to choose from to be honest

Shopping....nothing to shout about to be honest. They have many big shopping mall but its not well organised and there is no major anchor tenant. But the latest mall is Nagoya Hill....quite big and not bad lor

Makan time...dinner...head to lucky seafood near Mustika Ratu.....damn good food and fresh

Party place ...check out pacific discotheque.....its a ship.....as big as StarCruise....you will see it when you about to reach Harbour Bay....I hear the hotel at pacific already open this year

I have a contractor over there who can bring you around in a lexus.....young chinese indonesian chap and speaks like a singaporean....he can take you around.

Er..... is there any chinese new year goodies to be bought there? Howabout pasar malams and night eating places? Any kelong style seafood restuarants? I have couple of frens coming to stay with me from Kenya, i think i may bring them to Batam or Tanjung Pinang. In your opinion, which city is nicer to visit?

Forget the pasar malam dear...cny goodies mostly from malaysia sold in singapore. For to chinatown....everything is so cheap cheap lah

Kelong style....I can bring you to balerang. Its a 30-40minutes ride away from nagoya...balerang is a project done by former president of indonesia where they managed to connect 7 small island with 6 bridges....1st is awesome...nice place for fishing. My contractor fren goes there for racing his lexus with another JB maniac......fast & furious 3 embarassedlaugh.gif

Many place to makan dear....but stick to batam. Tanjung Pinang is a sex hub....you dun want to rub shoulders with the ah beng and ah seng and ah kong who thinks they are still young and good looking since they can buy young girls cheaply

Many resort and golf country club in batam....we have palm spring, nongsa point marina, turi beach resort, etc

dun worry about batam....quite safe to be honest...everyone is helpful. taxis are ok....juz bargain a bit with them ....or after you check in...arrange with the hotel to provide you with the hotel cab...I think Rp60k an hour with minimum block of 3 hours....if you thinking of going sightseeing or cheaper...juz flag it on the street.....its the easiest place on earth to get a cab...the moment you get out of the hotel lobby....taxis are everywhere...haha

food....there are many.... I only go to lucky seafood these days....its near mustika ratu tell the driver... depends on what you eat but price is cheaper than in singapore....the guy in lucky seafood gets stuff fresh....

to get laid....ask the taxi driver lor....hehe

That's what makes Singaporean men so confident in themselves despite the threats from westerners in the women and job fronts --- the compulsory military service and easy access to hookers!!! biggthumpup.gif

If u were an asian living in hick town in Kansas City, the hookers would be too intimidating to access....

I dunno, when I was in Singapore, what I heard was that military service was bad for Singaporean men when it came to women as it ment that their "development" both in terms of maturity and career was stunted for 2 years, putting them at a disadvantage when it came to women.

I am quite ashamed at the significant gap between Chinese and Malays in Singapore. Despite some discrepancies, the Indian population seems to be doing well in socioeconomic terms, but the Malay population still seems to have a huge gap in almost every statistic.

Chinese people are healthier and have better jobs in almost every mixed race country..

Even in America, Britain, Canada and Australia they live longer and earn more money.

I don't know about the other countries, but Chinese do not earn the most money in America, if you look at the Asian American census. I don't know about living longer, never seen statistics on that.

It is true that Asian American of Indian, Japanese, Chinese and Korean descents have the highest living standard and live the longest. Among these 4, Indian make the most money, than Korean, than Chinese and Japanese, but the different between these 4 groups is so small that is insignificant.

Well, you're also leaving out the Jewish population which is very educated and very successful (since we're talking about America) but I have no stats for that.

Well, I looked over the census again, and actually the order goes like this (for income) - Indians, Filipinos, Chinese, Japanese. The gap between the highest earner and the lowest earner in this group is $15,000, I don't think that's insignificant. So I don't think we can generalize with all the Asian community, a lot of differences sill exist between them, even in work choice (it seems like more Japanese are going for social/arts careers while Indians and Chinese tend to prefer to technical/professional jobs).

A bit off topic.
