Dear Jet,

I wanted to express my appreciation for you work and to ask you a few questions. I have seen 23 of your movies and own most of them, and I really love the choreography and action in your latest film, Kiss of the Dragon. As an amatuer boxer and a martial artist, I often find realistic action a bit more edifying.

A question that has been bothering me is your apparent reluctance to remove your shirt in recent films. It seemed that the injury in Kiss of the Dragon to your arm would have prompted the removal of your shirt, but instead you only took it half off. In Shaolin Temple and Born to Defence, you went shirtless for some time. I know that you were much younger then, but is there any ethical or moral reason for the humble attitude toward your own body? As a small man myself (5'7'', 125 pounds), no one appreciates the effort I put into my body or understands my devotion to athletic conditioning unless I walk around with my shirt off at every opportunity. I am proud of my Lo Meng and Bruce Lee type physique, and I have put a lot of work into it. You are obviously devoted to physical fitness and I just wondered if there was a palpable reason for your unwillingness to "expose" yourself? I only ask because I am curious if their is a philosophical reason behind it rather than a physical one.

Thanks again for all your hard work, and I look forward to seeing your next movie. Take care.

Jet's Response:

Whether or not I take off my shirt doesn't have anything to do with my morality or philosophy on life. It's a purely physical reason.

I'm short, only 5'7", and my muscles don't really look that great. I think that if you find 10 people walking on the street probably half of them have a better physique than myself.

Also, in martial arts the power comes from inside, not from your appearance, and I think the power can be seen whether or not a person wears clothes.
Titanium
He's not exactly buff
Aerain
That's because he's Asian.
Jarhier
maybe he has a 3rd nipple

jackie chan even fought in his underwear. that takes guts.

I personally don't like Jet Li and Jackie Chan, Hollywood is choosing them as main asian male actors on action style & gangsta movies because they represent small bodied asian and less masculine than muscled men from America.

Just look at how small is jet Li and Jackie Chan are, I'm much bigger than them, and I'm sure Hollywood and Movie studios can find better looking & bigger asian actors than them.

Also, in every hollywood movies, asian male don't get to survive and don't get the girl & never really kissed the girls. Hollywood also display asian men as untrustworthy, funny, little man and dirty. thumbsdown.gif

Asian don't have to make fun of other races in their movies to make themselves feel better...

You apparently haven't watched very many Asian movies. The blonde-haired blue-eyed doofus American is actually a pretty common character in the Asian cinema I've watched anyway. shrug.gif
Aerain
Well, most Europeans I have seen in K dramas are like rich and prestigious people. You rarely see anything like this in western movies and TV shows.

I definitely agree with you on the point that there are BOTH types of white people in Asian cinema (the good and the bad), whereas there's rarely anything other than the stereotypes of Asians in American cinema. Which is pretty damn lame.
Aerain
Well, I think we'd both agree that people who'd depict other races in a negative way deserve to have their @$$ kicked.

umm... I think the reason is more because they're good actors and great martial artists.

Chan in particular is a funny bugger. His movies are great. laugh.gif

Come on though Arash. You never see an Asian guy kissing a girl in a Hollywood movie. They've basically been desexualized in Western culture the same way black folks have been overly-sexualized.

Albeit Hollywood movies are 95% garbage, but still. :P
