Hello! Sain baina uu!
I'm seeking Buryat traces in Australia. It's beleived that during and after October Revolution 1917 some Buryats escaped for Australia.
Did you hear about that? Or maybe saw someone?

Please write in English. Thanx.

Yes my grandma has told me that and I have been asking people but no one really knows. I hear they went and became herders or farmers, well most of them. What do you know about this?

Sorry, fellas! Long time no look.

I'm Buryat-Mongol.

What I know. Just the same as you. It's a mystery covered with dark.
Even Google doesn't know.

So where do you live??? What is your citizenship??? Why are you asking these questions? I tried to search but gave up coz couldn't find any answers just like you. May be the numbers weren't as great as I thought...not noticable enough for people to know about. I think most went to Mongolia and/or Inner Mongolia, may be Kazakhistan.

Where you originally come from? Russia far-east?
I remember that during the red purge of soviet era, many Buryat Mongol were killed in both Mongolia and Russia. Some of them were deported to Sibria. One of my father's friend (a Chinese) who married a Mongol gal whose grandma has Russian citizenship and settled in Aust for 20 years. Because she have relatives in Aust, she and her Chinese husband go to Aust under her Grandma's help.
I guess she is a Buryat Mongol. Talktohand.gif
1. A Russian Grandma.
2. Grandma in Aust.
Two points suppot my guess.

I live in Russia and have Russian citizenship.
A lot of people want to change life and country, even Russians themselves.
I heard that Australian Buryats need fresh blood and welcome new people. That's what I heard. But all this is rumors, no one saw an Australian Buryat. It's like a snowman, yeti. All say but nobody saw him. Ha-ha.

Really, there must be not so much people to be noticed in such a large country. Keeping in mind thousands of newcomers from Asia.

I lived in both western and eastern coasts of Australia. On the western coast trust me - it'll take you years at a time to meet others of your own kind. On the eastern coast it's much better - In Sydney there are lots (well, lots compared to the west coast) of international students from Mongolia as well as quite a few Hazaras from Afghanistan living here. Unfortunately, we're not as organized here as in the United States or the UK - we're getting there with gegeen.com and the consulate here in Sydney though.

If you open your eyes you will meet them, but as a mate once said to me 'you guys just blend in with us' so it makes it even harder... but yes I agree that we are always very welcoming to other Mongolians here in AUS since we don't meet many of us around.
