Bayanihan is a cultural trait of the Filipino people which means making one another a hero. This is the exact opposite of crab mentality.
Classic Example of Bayanihan.
Taj Mahal of India. Great Wall of China. Great Pyramids of Egypt. These are just some of the Man-Made Wonders of the World. Generally, these wonders were made for kings/ pharaohs/ emperors through forced or slave labor. Definitely not bayanihan.
Ever been to the Banaue Rice Terraces? You’ll stand in awe watching this marvelous creation of the Ifugao tribe. Not just an ancient engineering marvel, as recognized by the American Society of Civil Engineers, to quote:
'Dating from 100 BC, this is the oldest and most extensive use of terraces in the world. The 20,000 hectares of terraces represent a rearrangement of the Cordillera Mountain Range from bedrock to topsoil. The engineering principles of hydrology, sustainable development, and efficient use of water resources and irrigation are all embodied in the careful design of this ancestral land management program.
but also a great source of national pride. What's great about the Banaue Rice Terraces is that they were built through cooperative means and for a more noble purpose of sustainaining the survival of a community. A classic example of bayanihan.
So instead of pulling one another down, let’s push each other up. Enough with the crap. Let’s do it. We can do it again.
