Well if that project is been push ,they might has face with these problems.
1) Budget; They would need a huge amount of the money in this project. May be we need to borrow money from Laos and Cambodia
2) geographic; I though Maekong river is lower than Esarn land to pump the water in to Esarn they would waste alots of electricity
3) Neighbor country which share Maekong river.
4) This goverment isnt stable enough and wouldnt stay long enough to push this project till it finish. Eventhough the project is kick off but it would stuck in the middle

The proportion of people living in the outback as opposed to the Eastern coast is like.. well.. nothing really. In Thailand 1/3 live in Isan. In any case... for Victoria we're actually pumping water out of the the rural areas and diverting them to Melbourne. Strange no?

The Maenum kong project was not new ,I just heard from my dad this policy been around since 1992 but it not push through. Things to considered is about the water level in Maekong river is not high all the time. In summer Maenumkong is also dry. Beside I heard that China gonna built the dam so that the water level gonna be lower.

The water problem up there is not because they dont have water its because they cant store the water.

See this map under Esarn ground is the stone and sand so that the soil cant keep water and as Esarn underground is stone so it would be causely to built tunnel.

If this project is not carefully implement it would be a big waste. Wish The goverment concern on the water storage issue as well. They should also built the pool to store the water if they built tunnel.
