Several southern provinces will become the first Autonomous Region that will be established when the AR bill is passed.

For those who dont know what it is?

Read this.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autonomous_Re...Muslim_Mindanao

The term that the newly democratically elected gpvernment under the patronage of Thakky is using is "Autonomous Region based on religion".

So, I guess there will be tons of autonomous regions after this one.

Thank you, PPP.

FAR SOUTH / NEW MINISTER'S THOUGHTS, DAILY UNREST

Chalerm: Some form of autonomy possible

Consideration will be given to setting up an autonomous area in the far South, using models adapted from China or Germany, as a means of redressing the violence in the region, Interior Minister Chalerm Yubamrung yesterday.

''I am looking for new solutions. The violence must be reduced,'' he said.

''I haven't decided on granting autonomy, but a communist nation like China allows Xinjiang to be an autonomous region with its own elections.

''Funds are allocated to the region and there is no fighting there.

This also happens in Germany, where they have their own budget and elections.

''I will see if any of the formulas being used in these two countries can be applied in the South,'' the new interior minister said.

Finding a solution to the unrest in the deep South was a priority of his government. He was also looking into ways of generating real unity among local administrators, soldiers and police in the region. Former prime minister Surayud Chulanont had said government officials there were disunited.

Mr Chalerm said his first steps would include talks with the governors of the five southern-most provinces, assistant national police chief Pol Lt-Gen Adul Saengsingkaew, chief of the southern police outposts in Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat provinces, and the director of the Southern Border Provinces Administration Centre (SBPAC).

He would use the information he obtained when discussing the issue with military leaders.

Mr Chalerm made it clear he was not planning to dissolve the SBPAC, as has been speculated, but would support its operation so that a lasting solution to the region's problems could be found.Citing his past experience, he insisted that he was a capable minister and especially suited for security affairs.

''I started security-related work when I was 25-26 years old. I used to work in investigation and crime suppression and handled important cases,'' the former police captain said.

He would rely on intelligence gathering and integrated strategies in his efforts to bring normalcy back to the troubled region.

In Yala, four border patrol police officemen were wounded in an ambush in Than To district yesterday afternoon. They were attacked while patrolling the Bannang Kajae-Ban Buathong Tai road.

They were taken to Yala Regional Hospital.

One of them was said to be in critical condition.

In Narathiwat, police yesterday arrested three men for possession of 3,260 methamphetamine pills, two 9mm pistols and 125 bullets in Bacho district.

They were identified as Masoray Hayeelording, 42, Aleeya Waehama, 48, and Afandee Madeng, 22.

Mr Masoray was a member of a volunteer defence force and a local singer, police said.

That would be very interesting if that would happened. However, I know the Thai government would not let such things happen.

This plan is retard ,ministry Chalerm not understand about the southerner situation enough. I am sure even the Autonomous region is found ,the problem still on going. Those terrorist is not like liberal force that do the favor for people ,all they want is putting people in fear. Only way is to made people cooperate with the goverment steadily ,its cant implement new things over night.Shout the policy out loud is the habit of PPP ,but this time its wasn't not a good idea.

@ khun anatta, i thought u had wanted the south to obtain self-rule should they still desire it... what's your position now??
DekThai101
Lol this is coming from the interior minister, Chalerm, alone. It has not been discussed with the government and the PM. Samakk himself even told Chalerm that this issue should be talked behind closed doors.

It was only Chalerm's part on this idea. No plan or such agenda about this is yet to be implemented.

Get your fact right. Thaksin's weakling!!

Khun tanga. it is very complicated issue for me to be really serious about it. It is very personal and emotional too.

Me, I deeply wish for peace and love for all thais no matter what their religions are.

However, bBecause of the ways that the then Thaksin gov handle the southernmost province problem, I thought it was best for everyone ,especially muslim southerners and teachers, if the insurgents get what they wanted.

The last gov which was installed by the coup makers did some pretty good job in restoring trust between the gov officials and the people there. There were bombings and killing but in smaller scale and less frequent. If more time, money and man power were given, we would see an obvious improvement.

The current gov? It is no diffrent from the last Thaksin gov. Same school of thinking. Same ideology(no ideology actually). Same mindset.

The south deserves the independence or not solely depends on how this gov see the problem.

If Thaksin and his people have not changed their attitudes toward the souhterners, Thailand should let the resource-rich south go.

Why? Because.

1. This gov will stay full term. You know why.

2. PPP will be elected again and again and again. You know why.

3.And without the south, there will virtually no oppositions in the parliament.

Khun Tanga. I have a feeling that the full independence or at least autonomous region of muslim south will be established in this administration.

Confuse? please ask more questions and be more specific.

cheers,

Are you telling me that I should take the interior minister's words for granted?

He IS the Interior Minister for fu-king sake!

Could he have spoken without carefully thought? No.

The guy must have spent sleepless nights thinking about the issue.

So when he was asked by a reporter, he proudly told them his solution to the problem.

Again, repeat .He IS the fu-king Interior Minister of thailand.

Let me say it again, the aftermath of his comment made in public was soon corrected by the PM, Mr. Samak. The PM wasn't so pleasant with the interior minister's fast track to the solution, reason being is the issue has not been discussed with the rest of the cabinet on pros and cons. More importantly referendum will definitely arise upon this option whether or not the nation as a whole likes the idea.

You kept saying "He is an interior minister, for fcuk sake!!", yes HE IS ==> meaning he has limited power on his hands. Plus he had never been an interior minister EVER. That's why this issue should be discussed before hand within the government prior to making any public comment. It is a sensitive and security concerned issue. He as a policeman and laws graduate should know better. Why did I get all worked up? I'll tell you why, it's because he, the interior minister, has yet to talk to the experts in the area of study, but he dared suggesting that option without doing any research, discussion and pros/cons weighting.

Plus your thread's title is misleading "To set up"??? As I said no such solution is yet to be implemented, let alone decided. They've just started studying this sensitive issue and are looking for most suited pathway to ending the terrorism in the deep south.

o.k. got it.

next time when the interior minister of Thailand says anything, i will wait for samak's approve

the interior minister has limited power? yes and no
yes, because he can't do anything outside his ministry authority
no, because he is the fu-king interior minister who is directly responsible for the deep south problem

none of this gov ministers have experience/qualification in their jobs
should i not trust them running this country too?

i already told you that as the interior minister, mr ubumroong must have had spent sleepless nights thinking about the south
so when he was asked he proudly told the reporters his perfect solution straight away

are you trying to tell me that people should not give a $hit what the guy is saying

i love this gov so much

because of its ministers, i now see the future of thailand

i don't see the south, the whole south, is part of that thailand

You just proved me right, exactly. Newly assigned as an interior minister, how long has it been? Apparently 2 weeks max. And you think he has spent sleepless nights and successfully drawn the conclusion to Deep South with a perfect solution? I hope you're kidding.

Quoted "none of this gov ministers have experience/qualification in their jobs should i not trust them running this country too?"

Let's take Chalerm's speech for a study case; He has not discussed and weighted pros and cons with the cabinet and respective experts in the area of study. However he blatantly suggested a solution to the 3 southernmost provinces' problem on his own. It's like you ask someone what is 500 divinded by 2.75 equal to. The answer you get is I think this and that even before doing the calculation.

Quoted "the interior minister has limited power? yes and no...
yes, because he can't do anything outside his ministry authority...
no, because he is the fu-king interior minister who is directly responsible for the deep south problem"

I'll say it again the interior minister does have a limited power, meaning he cannot decide on such an important national matter on his own @$$ alone. He needs to talk it out with the experts, cabinet and more importantly the PM. What you're saying is "oh hey I'm an interior minister, I don't have to give a $hit what the PM thinks on this national concerned matter. I'll do what I damn well please."

That's correct, he is directly responsible for the problem, and that's why he needs to be more careful on what he says to the media. You don't take the Thai by storm just like that.

Quoted "are you trying to tell me that people should not give a $hit what the guy is saying"

Dude, I'm giving a $hit about what he says. That's why I'm all worked up. You should too. Though you seem to have liken his solution very much.

You don't see the south, no, the whole south, as a part of Thailand? That's coming from a Thai? cuz that's so unThai.

We do have our say, so use it wisely!

Anybody can make claims or comments but to back it is another different story. You have not answered my simple question. How would you bring about of creating your own country, or creating your own government. If you don't have one just admit it. Hope my question is not too hard for you. i'll save a nicely debate just for my Muslim brother. santa.gifkiss.gif

ahh, bring about of creating my own country.

why didn't you say so.

here is the roadmap yet to be approved.

we will lease our beautiful beaches on the west coast to Sweden(alot of Swedes already living in Phuket, Krabi and Phang -NGa) for 30 years

we will lease the gas-rich east coast to oil companies for 30 years

take the money that we got to create better schools and universities

send the students to top universities around the world

use the money to improve the logistic system between east coast and south coast

after 30 years

we have our own responsible corporations

since the southerners are already living in good environment, we don't have to do much in term of condition of living

our corporations will invest overseas

compete will other countries

bring money home.

will expand our land into the sea too

wow

enough for now

any questions? embarassedlaugh.gif
