Mass Mobilisation Commission official strongly protests bill HR. 1587
On Tuesday Deputy Head of the Commission for Mass Mobilisation of the Party Central Committee Nguyen Duc Trieu strongly protested the so-called Vietnam Human Rights Act of 2004, coded HR. 1587, passed by US House of Representatives last month.
In an interview with Quan Doi Nhan Dan (People’s Army) newspaper, he said that the Vietnamese Party and Government have been issuing many appropriate policies to gradually narrow the development gaps between the delta and mountainous areas. Vietnam is also exerting efforts to strengthen unity among ethnic groups.
Mr Trieu said the Government’s Program 135 and applied technologies in farming have significantly improved the living standards of ethnic minority groups in general and the Central Highlanders in particular. He affirmed that the Vietnamese Government has consistently implemented the great unity policy, while eliminating religious discrimination.
Mr Trieu added that HR. 1587 in reality is a groundless accusation regarding the human rights situation in Vietnam intended to cause social and political disorder in the Central Highlands.
