OK, it is not
haute cuisine and it is not really traditional Japanese fare, but the food was good at my favourite Tokyo tiki bar - Loco's Table Mahana.
Located in the fashionable Ebisu/Roppongi area of Tokyo, this funky Polynesian-themed bar and restaurant has all the cool tiki décor for the urban archeologist to enjoy.
When I was there, a large screen played surfing videos, and a guy who looked like Kazuyuki Sekiguchi played ukelele, while hula girls danced. Even though my Japanese is poor, I was able to negotiate the menu, which had a few key words in English, and ordered grilled fish, shrimps and sweet potato, and several pina colada.
After that I even had a go at hula dancing myself.

It seemed appropriate that Mahana and the Benten Records office are only two doors apart.
The kawaii duo Petty Booka would feel right at home in Mahana.
The Ebisu franchise of the Loco's Table Mahana chain is very easy to reach.
This tiki bar is just across the road from the Ebisu subway exit. Their website with location map and other details is
here.
The other Mahana venues are listed on this
main website with links that will take you to each restaurant's individual site.
The link tabs are in Japanese, but when you move your mouse over them, they indicate the various locations in English.
There are also links to heaps of photos of various Loco's Table Mahana establishments
