Sate (Satay)

QUOTE
Satay (spelled as sate in both Indonesian and Malay and the Netherlands) is a dish consisting of chunks or slices of dice-sized meat (chicken, goat, mutton, beef, pork, fish, etc.) on bamboo skewers. These are grilled over a wood or charcoal fire, then served with various spicy seasonings (depends on satay recipe variants).

Satay may have originated in Java or Sumatra, Indonesia, but it is also popular in many other Southeast Asian countries, such as: Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, and Thailand, as well as in The Netherlands which was influenced through its former colonies.

Satay is a very popular delicacy in Indonesia, with a rich variety among Indonesia’s diverse ethnic groups’ culinary art (see Cuisine of Indonesia). In Indonesia, satay can be obtained from a traveling satay vendor, from a street-side tent-restaurant, in an upper-class restaurant, or during traditional celebration feasts. In Malaysia, satay is a popular dish - especially during celebrations - and can be found throughout the country. A close analog in Japan is yakitori. Shish kebab from Turkey and sosaties from South Africa are also similar to satay.

Sate Ponorogo
A variant of satay originating in Ponorogo, a town in East Java. It is made from whole sliced marinated chicken meat, and served with a sauce made of peanuts and chilli sauce. Garnished with shredded shallots, sambal (chili paste) and lime juice. The uniqueness of this varient is each skewer contains a whole chicken meat, not several slices. The meat also previously being marinated in spices and sweet soy sauce for quite some times (process called "bacem") to allow spice to soak into the meat. The grill is made from terracotta earthenware that have hole in one side to allow blowing the wind onto the burning coal. After use around 3 months, the earthenware grill would break apart, thus must be replaced to ensure the hygiene of the grill. The dish served with rice or lontong (glutinous rice cake).

Well it's better than:

Hufu... Human Tofu from our neighbouring country PNG
a tofu-based product which is marketed as resembling, as realistically as possible, the taste and texture of human flesh
Some words from the creator: "I think that a lot of the pleasure of eating the Hufu product, is imagining you're eating human flesh. For that moment, you can join the fraternity of cannibals... If you really want to come as close as possible to the experience of cannibalism, Hufu is your best option."

@emtitviet, are you Vietnamese? You should try Lumpia Semarang:

It's similar to one of your spring rolls in vietnam. It's different but it's good biggthumpup.gif

I personally love Gudeg:

It's young jackfruit + meat stew

for a nice desert you should try kolak:

It's made with palm sugar and coconut milk. It usually contains pumpkin, banana, cassava, sweet potatoe and jackfruit

About the dogs, they eat it in northern Sulawesi. I see all animals as food, no matter how cute they can be. (I love to keep dogs as a pet too though, don't get me wrong) I've tried bat before, it doesn't give you a sensation when you eat it.

Here we called that pinky ice "Es Doger".
And yes its originated from Bandung.

Recipe credit Dapur Bunda

100 gram boiled ketan hitam (black rice)
50 gram boiled pacar cina (red small rounded jelly, looks like pomegranates seeds)

SYRUP:
400 ml thick coconut milk
200 ml roozen (rose) syrup
100 ml water

HOW TO MAKE IT:

Boil the syrup ingridients than cool it down. Add shredded ice and coconut. Mix it evenly. Put it in refrigerator.

Serve es doger with dice of tape, 1 spoonful ketan hitam, 2 mall spoon of pacar cina, and sweet milk.

Actually, cendol is only the name of the green "jelly", we have many kinds of dessert made with it as the main ingredient icon_wink.gif The one called simply as "Chendol" by Malaysians and Singaporeans is what we call "Dawet Ayu", I think.

A sweet treat from South Sulawesi, Pisang Ijo of Makassar people:
