Is it possible? Is the Philippines finally going to be represented in Battle of Year 2004? Does anyone know about this?
Sorry for the subtle down play...but I'm pretty curious as to how the break/bboy scene is over there. I mean I do see blogs on the web of addicted bboys in the philippines but I haven't seen anything on bboy crews or anything like that. In fact the closest I've come to inducing about the bboy scene was watching that xtreme10 dance show MTB used to have on TFC (around the time when the jaboom twins were popular and were hosting that coca cola hand slapping game). Most of the guys who went on that show had some interest or prefered a style of breakdancing. And when it came time to see what they could do...it was pretty mediocre. I mean, mad props to them and their crazy acrobatic flips; however, they had unsmooth power moves, and their top/downrocking lack'd style.
In fact, I'll even go further than that and talk about when there used to be that PowerBreak contest back when the Power Boys(?) were popular. It was probably a way to promote breakdancing thru the media. Eitherway the show goes, there are two pairs of contestants competing against each other. Each Pair does a lil 3 min show. After the showcasing is done, they engage in a 5 min 2v2 battle. And thats where I'd have to say, they lacked: In creativity, in toprocking, in downrocking, in powers, except for that one exception...this guy who was on the show before the last time they air'd that on MTB...had a really decent style and pretty good halo backs (freezes).
Anyway what is up with the bboy scene there? Are there actually crews in the pinas? Are these crews gonna compete in Battle of the Year South East Asia 2004 Nationals in Bangkok, Thailand? Please...i'm pretty curious as to whats going on. Pictures, websites, and videos are highly appreciated.
