I feel 1 and 2 could do a pretty good job. And me too as I'm usually completely neutral with these things unless someone is saying something obviously dumb. So, who would you guys prefer?

X_Dragon

bigmonkey2382
You two do know that the me, means as in Bigmonkey. laugh.gif
Hafiz
SkyLegenD is the man !!!
riversouth
Red Fox Ace.

he is most active in taiwan chat, plus he is taiwanese so i judge his instinct to do a good job in here.
Suijen
RFA. SkyLegend's a fine sort, but I've rarely seen RFA lose his cool despite the crap he has to deal with.
bigmonkey2382
I don't think many of the mods are of the ethnicity they rule over, look at mongolian chat for one thing.
riversouth
^i think mods of each forum should be their own ethic because then mod doesn't side with anybody to be fair.

how about me becoming a mod of this forum and i ban everyone in here? laugh.gif
Jaimu-Jaimu
None.
I don't think it should have a sub-section either.
SkyLegenD
Taiwanese can be analogically described as Californian, or New Yorker.

Taiwanese can also be described as "a person from Taiwan."

Taiwan's population is 98% Han Chinese.

Taiwanese can be described as mexicans as to the USA.
about 100 years ago, california , new mexico, arizon all belong to mexico, but the white man stole their land, just like 60 years ago , the kmt came and took the land from Taiwanese.
but, today, mexico is an independent foreign country. just like Taiwan is a independent FOREIGN country to china.

Wrong.

Well, they can argue all they want. Their own constitution says otherwise.
vinn
The Taiwan constitution is completely wrong.
The Taiwan constitution is written by the kmt , which says Taiwan is the real china and it controls mongolia and all of mainland china.
Fact is , Taiwan does not control mongolia or mainland china. Taiwan is already an independent country and has their own president and military.
The DPP is correct, Taiwan constitution needs to be re written to reflect the current real status of Taiwan.

Even Taiwanese don't think DDP is correct...
Its time to fight for another loosing cause...maybe FREE Tibet perhaps?

They did in the last two elections. yep, DPP won the last two. kmt might win this one, two out of 3 still ain't bad.
since you are too young to understand, that politics is a circle.
why did you think the DPP was elected twice ? it is because the kmt go too corrupt and the people had to remove them from power.
Chillin
I would love for vinn to be a mod here. I know there will be people who disagree with me, but it is my opinion ok. I believe that vinn would be one of the best moderators here and I support him 100%.

I don't necessarily agree with that. I think there are perfectly good reasons to have mods of the ethnicity of the chat they're modding, one of the primary ones being that if the conversation veers away from English to a language associable with that ethnicity (for example, if a chat evolves from English to Vietnamese [as it often does in the Vietnamese Chat forum], it'd be nice if the mod knew Vietnamese and there wasn't a language barrier problem that might affect their modding in that particular thread--especially if it devolves into insults in Vietnamese, it's important that they're able to piece together who said what exactly), but I don't think being unbiased is one of the perks associated with having a mod of the ethnicity of that chat. You're just as likely to get a biased mod in the Taiwanese Chat that is Taiwanese as you are one who isn't. Maybe it's more likely that his bias is pro-Taiwanese than the one who isn't Taiwanese, but still, the likelihood of a bias is no more or less likely just because of their ethnicity.* The more important factors you should be looking for in your mod (and hopefully will be factors Ben is looking for when he picks mods) are that they're not a hotheaded imbecile, that they're willing to put in the time to mod (which is the problem we had with the mods from last time who are currently inactive), and that they're going to make the effort to deal with everyone fairly. The common consensus here is actually that 2 of the 3 best active mods we have here aren't even Asian, let alone of the ethnicity of the forums they mod.

*I know having a mod that's adamantly pro-your ethnicity sounds nice on the surface, but it's likely to stopper out any give-and-take, and tends to disallow for any opinion that seems critical of the ethnicity/country/regime/etc. If everyone's in agreement it amounts to a boring conversation.

if this is what you concern, then we should have 2 mods (1 who is a taiwanese and the other who is non-asian). problem solves! biggthumpup.gif

it's balance right?

but it's hard to find a unbias mod that do a good job.

i mean even the non-asian mods, they aren't delicate to doing a good job for a particular ethic forum because they aren't part of that ethic. do you know what i mean? like why should i care if i'm not that ethic group?

that is one reason why you see troll making crazy topic and mods don't react quickly enough.

but this problem is far from china forum though because imo the mod in china chat is very quick to take action.

maybe because those china chat mods are chinese and know what they are doing.

just my .25 cent. biggthumpup.gif

I definitely know where you're coming from. Ideally someone who is Taiwanese would be much more interested in keeping the Taiwanese chat sub-forum clean than a random guy like myself would. They have more invested in the culture, they have a sense of cultural pride, they're concerned with being able to discuss Taiwanese issues without all of the trolls coming in starting $hit for no more reason than they feel like being an annoyance. As I mentioned previously, a knowledge of the language and culture of a particular chat forum would also be helpful. For those reasons I definitely do think that at least half of your mods for any particular ethnic chat should be of that ethnicity.

I suppose the only point I was really trying to make was that (and the fact that I'm saying this probably doesn't matter, as Ben has the ultimate choice anyway, although I personally think the active members of a particular chat forum should have more of a say in who becomes mod than someone who rarely visits it, even if he's the Admin.) just take into consideration the fact that it's important that your mod is not so much Pro-Taiwanese, Anti-_____, as he/she is Pro-Taiwanese discussion. The most important thing I suppose is just that your mod is open-minded. No one wants trolls, trolls eliminate intelligent discussion. But it's also important that the mod isn't so radically Pro-Taiwanese that he's no going to allow any criticism of Taiwanese issues, even from other Taiwanese individuals.

If you do get a couple non-Taiwanese mods though (which is likely) the most important thing you can do is help the mod out by reporting any trolling that's going on. If they're not entirely incompetent they'll be as concerned with keeping the forum clean and facilitating discussion as anyone else would. That is their entire job, after all, regardless of their ethnicity. To keep the forum relatively amicable and to allow for free and open discussion.

I'll leave you guys be for now though, sorry for meddling in your affairs, just thought I'd interject with my feelings on the mod issue in general. Take it easy river. biggthumpup.gif

Funnily enough these are the exact same mods who do actually react to these topics as opposed to ignoring them.

i think being a good mod is NOT an easy job.

sometime pride taking over your common sense.

in that case, we should have 2 mods for each forum.

and you are right, ben should the last say in all of this.

but i like to see maybe you and red sox mod for this section.
