Just curious, I know a bit about Article 9, but I want to know, which political factions are supporting the abolishing or revising of Article 9, and which groups want to keep it? Unsurprisingly it sounds like right wingers want it gone and left wingers want it to stay, but it's probably not that simple. And what are the arguments being used by thema?
Ecthelion
Article 9 is not going to be changed, at least not for a long time.

The political right, under the Abe, Koizumi fiasco regime wanted to, but they never had anything resembling a coalition to get it done. The most they managed was to upgrade the JSDF from an agency to a department.

Fukuda is a left wing pacifist. He will have nothing of the sort.

Why change Article 9 when it is already being circumvented.

preamble of Japanese constitution
QUOTE
We, the Japanese people, acting through our duly elected representatives in the National Diet, determined that we shall secure for ourselves and our posterity the fruits of peaceful cooperation with all nations and the blessings of liberty throughout this land, and resolved that never again shall we be visited with the horrors of war through the action of government, do proclaim that sovereign power resides with the people and do firmly establish this Constitution. Government is a sacred trust of the people, the authority for which is derived from the people, the powers of which are exercised by the representatives of the people, and the benefits of which are enjoyed by the people. This is a universal principle of mankind upon which this Constitution is founded. We reject and revoke all constitutions, laws ordinances, and rescripts in conflict herewith.

We, the Japanese people, desire peace for all time and are deeply conscious of the high ideals controlling human relationship and we have determined to preserve our security and existence, trusting in the justice and faith of the peace-loving peoples of the world. We desire to occupy an honored place in an international society striving for the preservation of peace, and the banishment of tyranny and slavery, oppression and intolerance for all time from the earth. We recognize that all peoples of the world have the right to live in peace, free from fear and want.

We believe that no nation is responsible to itself alone, but that laws of political morality are universal; and that obedience to such laws is incumbent upon all nations who would sustain their own sovereignty and justify their sovereign relationship with other nations.

We, the Japanese people, pledge our national honor to accomplish these high ideals and purposes with all our resources.

article 9 is based on this.
however, most Japanese know it is wrong because of Korean's unlawful occupation of Takeshima, a-bomd , chinese airspace incursion......

Japan can not trust them at all.

there is no court-martial.
exsistence of court-martial is one of war potencial .
Imperial army had a war potencial like Aircraft carrierm and system for attack

That is, it is a system only of the defense in Japan now.

I disagree with the article for the simple fact that it denies japan the right to defend themself. Every other nation in the region has the right to defense and usually a large and powerful army to back it up. It is beyond time for japan to do the same. When japan does this it will mean we will have the ability to stand alone from the U.S. and not be at a disadvantage any longer.
yhellothar
Does it include anything about developing indigenous weapons technology?

Its about war potential in general. However there are some japanese made weapons. Although many are expensive than their international counterparts. Japan has yet to build a large military industry. Although I personally feel that something like that would be positive for the japanese economy and national pride.

Japan would be able to make some pretty good weapons.
Ogumo
Agreed. Japan's only hinderence is our constitution. If japan were to remilitarize tommorow the political land scape would change significantly.
