Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla said Indonesia was no longer categorized as a poor, but middle class developing country, with a per capita income of US$2,000, double that 10 years ago.
"The per capita income of US$2,000 is a four times increase in the last ten years," he said.
According to him, the gross domestic product of Rp4,000 trillion and a per capita income of US$2,000, indicated that Indonesia was no longer a poor but a medium class developing country.
However, he said prices of some daily nessaries in Indonesia were still increasing like cooking oil, soybean and wheat flour.
"These price hikes are the impact of the world economic situation, including increased prices of world oil, soybean and some others commodities," he said.
In view of these price hikes, the government could not carry out large-scale development projects like building more toll roads and raise power supply by 2,000 megawatts annually, he said.
It was also a fact that each budget that had been approved by the House of Representatives was mostly allocated to pay foreign debts, debt interests and subsidy, totalling Rp300 trillion annually.
However, generally the Indonesian economy has been steadly improving compared to the situation ten years ago following the crisis.
"I believed that without a current world oil price hikes, Indonesia`s economic growth could reach eight percent a year," he said.
According to him, a country will win the respect of the internaional community if it has a strong economy.(*)

I'm curious where did JK (Jusuf Kalla) cite his source? To be honest, I doubt that Indonesia has indeed become a middle class country. I agree that the Indonesian middle class are steadily growing, but have they finally overwhelmed the lower class?

(Fud/OL-2)

babababababababababa
that ur indonesian per gdp becomes 1800$ now, it is because have cheap ur many population's labor power..
indonesia is the country that only cheap labor power is affluent because there are very much populations..
if indonesian populations are 20 million person levels, it may be same with nepal..
because u are a race is an inferior race..
what is ur country skill, tech ?? indonesia is no any skill and tech..
only have many cheap labor..
and what?
there are much populations, logic poor ?
then, if USA populations are 1 million people, does USA per gdp become 15,000,000$?
if india's populations are 10million people, does india per gdp become 100,000$?
or, if UK populations are 300 million people, is UK per gdp become 6,000$?
if chinese populations become 1million people, is Chinese per gdp 3,000,000$ then?
ur logic is entirely ignorant and stupid logic about economy..
also, it is speech of a stupid and inferior Indonesia race..
that current per gdp of Indonesia becomes 1,800$ is because there are many ur many people's numbers..
therefore
many indonesia laborer is that foreign companies make an investment in Indonesia as is many..
so, it is that indonesian per gdp becomes 1,800$..
If Indonesian populations were 20million people, it is country of per gdp 500$ like current nepal..
if Indonesia populations are 1 million people, it is same with Indonesia = east timor..
a east timor race is a same race with indonesia and stupid brain is same too..
do study about economy...stupid indonesian
