Where the hell do you live and how can you afford it? I'm shopping around for a house and I can't afford a damn thing unless it's in the ghettos or the suburbs. Hell, it seems like a mill is the minimum price for a old beat up house in the Bethesda, Chevy Chase, and Georgetown area. When did a million become the starter home price? What the fu-k gives?

Find one in Virginia or Maryland instead.

personally, i think the market is going down even further. i have a realtor and planning on buying a house in virginia or washington, dc in november/december of 2008.

VA has some nice homes but I prefer Bethesda, CC, and Gtown. I make that and then some - I think prices are outrageous around the DC area. I simply can't move back into the ghettoes

Not true. The townhouses in our neighborhood right off of 495 in Fairfax are going for the mid 300's, and the single families (while they are a bit older) are going for 400. It's a nice neighborhood too.

If you're looking in Montgomery County, I reccomend Montgomery Village or Germantown, and just get a town house.

Hmmm.. Like I said I don't want to live in the ghettoes. MV and Germantown are ghettoes. Especially MV - it's like san deigo with illegals all over the place. I just have to accept the fact that I've to pay alot to live properly.

Townhouses are unacceptable - unless it's an urban loft like type of homes in DC or the victorian types in DC.

MV and Germantown aren't ghettos. Capitol Heights and Clinton are ghettos.

If you've got NW money, then by all means, buy something in NW.

I personally wouldn't live up there anyway, it's too crowded and parking is a b!tch. I much prefer the suburbs.

Hmmm.. MV is right by Lake Forest Mall - I did my research. There's suppose to be a high concentration of gang activity around there - I'm don't want to get shot for $20. Hell, alot of people are getting stabbed,shot,etc.. around that area.

Certain parts of Germantown are livable but it's not exactly an affluent area.




I hear you girl. Perhaps, if I was starting out in life those areas would be fine. However, I'm lost the hardcore edge so I need a nice safe neighborhood.

I went to a few open houses this weekend around the Bethesda,Chevy Chase, NW Dc area and the asking prices are insane for the crap shacks going for sale. The bubble haven't burst in that area and I'm willing to wait it out. It seems like I'd need to spend $1 mill to get a livable place and that's is surreal.

My sister moved there and it's ridiculous as she says. fu-k that $hit.....

Oh no, they're are by no means affluent or even my first choice if I had the money to shell out. Plus, it's been a few years since I lived there and it was already on the decline when I left. The part of Gaithersburg I lived in was very near Germantown and the college, so it was pretty nice. Not great, but nice. Convenient but not crowded, and that's always my main concern.

Have you looked at North Potomac? Just inside Rockville. Not alot of minorities there, about 70% white, 30% asian and by no means ghetto. I had a few Persian friends that lived out there.

I looked into NP - it's okay. It's too surburbia - $hit, I might as well move to clarksburg and get a brand new house for insane prices they asking for in NP. For some reason, I'm drawn to the Chevy Chase, Bethesda, DC part of the area perhaps it's more city than anything else I've seen. Anyways, I guess I'll have to rent a condo for the time being.

Yes it is quite high if you look in those communities. The minimum, like you realized yourself is only $700 or lil more for a ramber. Ramblers are awesome still. Less ceiling cracks because of the weight on top of having another level occupied pending if you store heavily in your attic. I lived in the DC area for most of my life on and off and in the SoCal region as well. DC is by far much more technically advanced with better allocated resources. Look for the opportunities.

my realtor told me to wait it out a little bit longer. i won't start actively looking until october of this year.

my price range is the same as yours and i refuse to live in the fu-kin' hood.

i casually go to open houses every other weekend just to see what's out there though. plus my realtor sends me updated listings every couple of days.

Arlington is way too expensive for you. Young people don't live there lol. Try falls church, Newington, or even woodbridge.
