Could you give me some links to who is popular right now? I am just geniunely curious.
Is there starting to be alot of korean or japanese pop influence?
(i know you probably won't know who she is, but she is just a young singer who became a real hit) Is there an Alexandra Bounxouei equivalent in Cambodia or some other music phenomenon?

I think Alexandra is in a class of talent all her own. I have yet to see any Khmer pop star who can sing well and play any instruments.

There was some Cpop influence (I noticed some Yuki Hsu songs a few years ago). But not really any Jpop or Kpop.... most of the influence still seem to be from Thai pop, rock, and r&b, either that or rehashes of Western singles. And now there's commercial pop-rock which I'd say are regurgitations of Clash.
On the hip-hop side, there is Pou Klaing and his stuff sounds like American hip hop fused with traditional Khmer sounds.

hmm we cant really recommend anything great right now, khmer music still has a long way to go before it reaches anything near the quality of artists from neighbouring countries, however on a general note there is actually alot of korean influence in cambodia right now,
from construction to entertainment, last time i was in cambodia, 60% of the tv dramas and movies that aired on tv were korean dubs (dont u just love those sad korean dramas haha), if you ask any khmer girl on the street if they know who rain is, they will most likely know him..hell even my mother knows him geez, i hate that guy...
anyways than theres camko city, designed and built by koreans and there also alot more developements happening right now.. hopefully in future we can become closer with other countries, we need some khmer anime influence happening haha..

I think the most popular thing in Cambodia now is getting themselves their own style of hair, clothes, even make up, and stuff. Kids now are out of order.

Denith, what type of leader are you? That is not good news, dude! Go out there and kick some arses, will ya?

The point is, I am current in no position to stop or even prevent this from expanding. However, this is the result of globalization and open-culture to foreign investment.

Apr 18 2008, 12:28 AM
What? no foreign investor would want to invest in the country full of wild people. They probably go to Laos, Burma, or Vietnam. Where did you get these silly idea from, mate?

Apr 18 2008, 12:34 AM
Hmm... from those kids. Well! It started when you see new style, new products in stock and you will want it. Kids nowaday have money... they do have money to spend, not only for themselves but even for their lovers. That is one part which help hasten Cambodian economics today but also, will have bad effects in the future since these kids dont know how to save their money when they SHOULD. And, the problem is, they really like updating their stuff... and imagine the amount of money they would spend to do so. Who brought this practice? Isnt it those investment? Korean! Thai! Chinese! European! They bring us diseases.
laowatchdog
Apr 18 2008, 12:47 AM
True, but it is not likely that these kids will followed foreigners on their own. There must be some stupid Khmer that motivated them to become wild. I mean someone pro-westerner like Sam Rainsy and his clan.
Nikkie_nid
Apr 18 2008, 12:51 AM
Haha... you think he and his clan spend times to advertise foreign product... not preaching political and social criticism.
Its those movies star and singers.
laowatchdog
Apr 18 2008, 01:13 AM
Denith, it is everyone who came back from the west, and they brought a bunch of poisons into the country and I never seen Sam Rainsy and his clan criticized them. Have you?
Nikkie_nid
Apr 18 2008, 01:29 AM
Like I said, SR and his clan focus more on political issues, but the main point is that, he is fighting for power not people. If he has been truly the opposition, he should have brought those topics in the first place coz this concern Cambodian future and its fundamental measures.

Wow, I didn't even know you got a car, Denith. Since when did you got it? Did you ever post the picture of it on your blog?
Anyway, no rush on KFC. When you get to it, just let us know what you think of it.
