Don't ya think in honor of the Presidential election in the U.S., shouldn't Ben decide to have an election to decide the mods? I pretty much think so, like a poll and we all have to vote. Doesn't sound like a bad idea to me.

Say everyone on AF has the ability to vote for a mod in, say, Laos Chat. That winner would just be the most popular AF'er, and he/she might not even know anything about the subforum he/she is arbitrarily voted for.

On the other hand, let's say all the Chinese Chat members have the ability to vote for the mod of Chinese Chat. There happen to be quite a few overly-nationalistic and intolerant trolls in that subforum, and the mod who wins may be a stubborn extremist who doesn't allow any critical posts in that subforum. -_-

Of course, the current mods aren't that much better. It'd just be redistribution of incompetency.

How about the majority of mods remain appointed and selected by Ben, but have a minority few who are elected by popular vote? (maybe 1 such mod per individual forum.) That way the members are happy because they feel they have a voting say, and the administration is happy because the majority of mods remain under administrator control.

It's a bad idea to have the regular posters choose candidates for modship. You'd be better off just having the mods recommend a group of people and go from there as was previously planned. They could probably give you 10 or so quality choices in about 10 minutes, and Ben could take it from there.

That said, I imagine 2 or 3 of the choices will take a bit of going out on a limb, as we don't actually have very many regular posters who don't go around getting in perpetual fights.

Just pick 5 random people to be mods. That way, no one ends up being resentful.

She's on almost everyday!One good quality of a mod is activeness, they need to be on 24/7 without sleep to clean up forums from trolls and spammers to keep the forum enjoyable for everyone.

She has been a member of this site since early 2007 and has over 5000 posts. She contributed a lot to Vietnamese chat in a short period of time. Without her Vietnamesechat would be dead and boring.

I don't know about you but I'm tired of these skinny nerdy dude as mods. These dude get picked on real life and seek power on AF by becoming mods, they're bitter and a bunch of control freaks who will ban members to feel better about themselves. With Xigoncongchua you won't have that problem. She's a linguist, a politician and a historian. If she's mod she makes this site looks good. Why? she'll attract more members and keep the site alive.
