I bought in 6pallets of 50lb, hom mali Jasmine rice for $21.50, 2 months ago

last month that price wholesale went to $32.50,

This month, there is No more Jasmine rice, except for Sticky Rice,

Soon, everyone will turn to Sticky rice to eat with their Som Tum.

Now the price of Sticky rice is starting to raise as a result, $5 from last month to this month.

I've already sold 4 pallets of the rice for $37. currently it is around $43 and raising, thus im hiding the remaining 2 pallets because by next month it will be up to $50.

most of the time, we only make a few dollars off rice, being its a commodity

by next month we will be making over 100% markup.

O yeah, im in the Wholesale industry.

^ Thats cool.

Even though at my house we don't eat that much rice I'll try to answer your questions.

1) Well I didn't buy my last bag of rice (4 days ago). I got it from my aunty because my mum told me to get rice from her and she gave us a bag for free. It was crazy though, i felt like she raided all the asian grocery stores in our vicinity. There were at least 30 bags of rice in her garage. Maybe she's selling it?

2) Not really, rice isn't really a massive expenditure for us.

3) Benefits the middle men most.

4) Not sure.... lol

One of my uncles has an interest in several rice fields in Battambang. I have a feeling he's making a cake-load right now.

I don't buy rice, but my parents complain about rice being sold at the price of $50, and it use to be $20 less.

It does bug me that rice are so expensive right now, because we as Hmong people sometimes have a cultural thing that consider a lot of people coming over. That means that we'll need to make a lot of rice to feed everyone, and well we don't have that much money to spend $50 on a bag of rice every 2 - 3 weeks.

I'm not sure who'll benefit from this price.

I don't think it was necessary to raise the price for rice. It's just stupid.

60% of the rice produced and consumed in the US comes from Arkansas. as a result of the ban of jasmine rice exports, even the cheap Ameican rice sold in chinese restaurants have doubled. just go visit ur local Sam's club, im sure everyone has seen it on the new's. they are even limiting the cheap stuff. Chinese Fast food is a gourmet food now,

many buffets are closing down because they cant make money due to the cost of food.

Of course the farmers and ppl who manufactor rice are making the money, They are producing the same amounts of rice as in years passed, but are selling for twice the cost. so their profit has doubled.
