Hey, does anyone know of or seen anything related to Hmong Swords??? I know Hmong people have to have made swords at some time in our history....especially during the Chinese fighting period.....I know in the last century Hmong people really didn't have a need for swords but I have heard of them....and I have a Great Grandfather overseas who is said to make Swords but I don't know if they are traditional or just Really Big Hmong Knives.....People say they are made kinda the same way as a Hmong knife and has kinda the same wooden coverings and all.....but are actually kinda shiny when completed.....I have never seen one before......it would be really nice to own one...I think I'll try to get one shipped from him.....But any info pertaining to hmong swordsmanship would greatly be appreciated, thanks...

Hmong swords:

As it was said that Hmong created the first double edge sword that allowed a single bearer to beat down ten opponents at once. Upon hearing that, many kingdoms feared that the Hmong would become too powerful of a people and they sent assasins to to destroy the knowledge. Later they sent spies to gain the knowledge. Spies learned that that was only one type of sword that Hmong people had. Hmong people also had big giant swords that litterally were said to be two people's height, that could slayed a man and horse in one single blow. Hmong people also had swords that were so light and fast as if the wind would cut a person into pieces. Well, the rest was a history of war and destruction. Now those secrets are lost and spoken as if only fables.

Most swords will LOOK similar. It's just in the way that they are made that distinguishes them.

That Thai sword looks an awful lot like a some older Japanese and Middle-eastern swords too.

From what I've heard from various older folks I've talked to, the art of swordmaking was for the hmong people were outlawed by the chinese... after the final time that they woop'd our behinds. The only sharp objects that we were allowed to make were, you guessed it, knives... err, cooking knives. Our people were forbidden to make or own swords for a period a time there, so the art was eventually lost along the way.
