There is a "What do Filipinos think of Us Malaysians" thread etc etc.

So why not "What do Tagalogs think of Us Visayas" thread and vice versa.
tamang hinala
so, it was like "what do Filipinos think of Tagalogs and Visayans"?

actually i like both of ethnics, i had a Visayan blood but i consider myself Tagalog (although i don't have Tagalog blood) for i am raised as a Tagalog...
god056
Of course we do (atleast on me)! What makes you think otherwise?

*throws a bowling ball on a Visayan's face*
Dette
My mum is a Visayan and my dad is a Tagalog.

I was born and raised in Cavite so I consider myself a Cavitenya.

As what most Tagalog say about the Visayans is that visayans talk a lot and are loud people.

When being asked are you a "bisaya"?Some people are embarass to say they are and they would say instead , "no, I am a Tagalog."

I don't want to think that Tagalogs are superior than the Visayans just because Visayans speaks in a different tone and they are a bit behind from what's going on in the north.I'm talking about Visayans who are in the Visayas region.

Tagalogs look down on the Visayans. People who display this arrogance, are usually just the most ignorant of people. Visayans are turned off with the political controversies in Manila, which spur some die hard Bisdaks to cry out for secession, or at least Federalism. Also, the enormous discrepancy in the distribution of wealth in the regions causes an uproar for the less represented - the people of Visayans and Mindanao. Generally, Visayas and Mindanao are behind technologically, and in modernity, which causes Tagalogs to look at these provincial people as low class.

In America, Canada, UK, Australia and ect, Filipino is Filipino.

What? Majority of "Tagalogs" are not even ethnically Tagalog...alot of them immigrated to South Central Luzon during the last century. Native Tagalogs e.g. Bulakeno, Batangueno, Laguna, etc. are not the same as Manilenos. But even so, not all nor most Manilenos do that ('look down').

Also there are biases within communities e.g. there are Ilokano and Visayan animosity (not so huge, but there are among them). Truth of the matter is there are misconceptions and generalizations amongs ethnic groups e.g. Kapampangans are haughty, Bikolanas are easy, etc...yet majority of Filipinos could really care less. That's why when Visayans specifically Cebuanos are always here talking about how they are mistreated I'm surprised...majority of people I've talked to could really care less about Tagalog vs. anything.

Where'd you get these notion from? Have you ever been to Luzon or any other part of Luzon aside from Manila?

You seem to be as ignorant as the people you're referring to and also within your own backyard...

Agreed. This still exists now. It reminded me of a time when we were at my aunt's (dad's side) place. They called us "Bicolano" with a negative tone (but it was not the "easy" conception as far as I can tell). My mother was from Albay so the effect of the comment was buried deep in me.

Man, It's obvious you're lying.

No, I haven't been nearly as everywhere in the Philippines. The whole of Mindanao I can assure you I have travelled it extensively and in fact stayed for months in some areas for a time and also in the Visayas like Negros Provinces, Cebu Province and Samar/Leyte island. In Luzon not as extensive because I've only been in Sariaya, Quezon where an uncle has a c@ck farm.

So, how far did you go? Please don't count what you've read in the internet and travelouges and those occasionaly shown on the idiot box.

On Topic:

It's not only with the tagalog or more precisely the people living in Manila who discriminates people from the provinces. In fact, most filipinos show prejudice to any one who he/she thinks is below his stature.

Majority of us is sick.

I did a road trip from Banaue Rice Terraces all the way to Lanao del Norte. I have visited relatives from parts of Luzon, Visayas (Bohol, Leyte, Cebu), and Mindanao(Davao, CDO, Lanao, Zambuanga, Ormoc). That's how I'm not lying. What is your damage with me buddy? Maybe your just an ahole looking for a fight, or an overbearing intellectual who always thinks he's right and everybody is stupid. Newsflash! You don't know everything, and other's opinions are valid.

I'm sticking to what I believe, based on what I see, what I've experienced, what I've read, what's been discussed in classrooms, and intelligent dinner conversations with my family and relatives. If you don't like it, tough.

For you to be so accusatory in the internet shows your lack of etiquette. I'm done.

BasinBictory
Outside of the PI, Filipinos are Filipinos, but when they get together, it's always, "What part of the Philippines are your parents from?" This is to satisfy their need to categorize me. I remember once I said to some elderly lady who was a stranger to me, "Oh - my dad is from Bulacan." She muttered something (sounded unflattering - but I couldn't tell since it was in tagalog) and stalked away. It was like I farted in her face or something! thumbsdown.gif

These are the stereotypes I've been told of Filipinos:

Tagalogs (particularly Manilenos) act like New Yorkers - they think they're the best, most sophisticated, most fashionable, most up-to-date, most educated, and just generally the best all-around people in the whole PI, if not the world.

Illocanos are like Jews - they're very thrifty, tight with their money, very hardworking

Pangasinans are similar to Illocanos, but to a lesser extent

Bisayas are loud, happy, love to party, and are carefree with their money (which brings the axiom my family said to me that "it's good to have Bisayan friends, and an Illocano wife!")
god056
I have an idea. Why don't we compile the general stereotping that we encounter about Filipinos? Both positive and negative to be balanced and fair. I'm picking up on Basin up here where he listed some known "pag uugali" of our brothers from other regions.

I just hope none would be offended when they see some negative description that they would chance upon here.

Good idea biggthumpup.gif I dont have a list but Ill go by my personal experience...

The bisaya I have seen are like the "tuksohin" of the crowd, if that make any sense? Not gonna generalise but that seems like the norm when they mix with the tagalog.

The other things I have noticed, most cant say the word OPO to the elders. My sister in law seems to have problem saying that word to my lola, its almost like shes taught not to respect the tagalog elders. Some of the words they say is considered disrespectful to the tagalog. They might say the word "bunganga" instead of bibig? or "lamon" and not kain. My sister in law once said, "hoy lamon na kau, baka mga patay gutom na kau dyan" we were like WTF? She was like talking to her baby once "buka bungaga lamon ka na anak" embarassedlaugh.gif
