what the fu-k? There was one time when he was making fun of Sri Lankans and their language and he assumed everyone there spoke or was Tamil. I wouldn't call that 'knowledgable'. How pathetic it was when you consider over half of india's population speak dravidian languages which to most non-dravidian speakers would sound more or less like Tamil. He just assumed that a language must sound something like Hindi or Panjabi to be labelled as 'Indian'. wake up to yourself russell; you could've at least browsed through wikipedia articles on sri lanka or tamils before u made fun of them. simply pathetic

More like he invents new stereotypes of his own.

You're talking about the one he did in the UK, right? Keep in mind that the joke was targetted at a British Asian audience. If you're not British Asian, then it's obvious you wouldn't get the joke.

And for your information, he did the exact same joke in front of an American Desi audience, and used the term "South Indian" instead of "Sri Lankan". The reason he used "Sri Lankan" in the UK version is because the words "Tamil" and "Sri Lankan" are used interchangably over here, i.e. because the majority of Tamils here are Sri Lankan and vice versa.

If anything, this only goes to show how much knowledge he has of British Asian culture. In other words, it's you who lacks knowledge of other cultures, not Russell Peters.

^As a BBC I second that.

Okay, fair enough I get your point. Thanks for your explanation. So basically what you're saying is that Russell deliberately decided to sound abit ignorant because most British Asian seem to think that "Sri Lankan" and "Tamil" are synonymous just because there's a large presence of Sri Lankans Tamils in the UK? It's kinda like most Australians seem to think Malaysians are all Chinese just because most Malaysians in Australia are of Chinese descent. So when they see a muslim Malay Malaysian with a hijab, "What, there are muslims in Malaysia. I didn't know that". embarassedlaugh.gif

Hey you can do it too. Just take a picture with a tiny light source. Then, edit it with Windows by putting the saturation to the lowest. And voila, you'll be a ghost too. icon_wink.gif
