SEOUL, May 26 (Yonhap) - South Korea has officially lodged a protest with Beijing for the robbery of a local fishing boat by a Chinese vessel, the Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said Monday.

The request made through the Foreign Ministry calls on China to apprehend the offenders who committed the crime in the high sea, and to take steps to prevent a reoccurrence of such an incident.

The crew of the 29-ton Sekwang fishing boat operating in the East China Sea, 460 kilometres southwest of Jeju Island, reported that they collided with a 70-to 80-ton Chinese vessel in the early hours of the day. After the collision, 20 sailors from the Chinese vessel, which had a pennant number of 71216, boarded the South Korean boat and stole 5,200 kilograms of fish stored in the hold, some cash, mobile phones and cigarettes.

No member of the South Korean crew was seriously injured in the ensuing struggle, although at least one was beaten, and others were restrained.

The ministry, which is responsible for fisheries, said it plans to receive an official statement from the Sekwang crew before asking for compensation.

The South Korean boat arrived in Seogwipo harbour on Jeju Island in the afternoon.

Im not going to address all your points since im getting lazy. Koreans and people from other countries learn Chinese for economic reasons. Not because they "Respect" the chinese language or find it beautiful. Youve got to be kidding if you think otherwise. Yes there are a lot of K-pop fans, and yes a lot of them are Chinese. In Hangul(Korean) you only need to memorize 24 characters to completely master the Korean language. And I do mean master. Foreigners in Korea have come to understand Hangul within a single day. A kid whos mastered Hangul can spell the most difficult Korean words with ease due to the highly phonetic nature of Hangul.

On the other hand, you need to memorize over 47,000 characters in order to truly understand almost every Chinese character out there. And some of the characters take forever to write. Heres the Chinese characters for biang noodles.



Not only is it a pain in the @$$ to memorize. Its mind numbingly difficult to write. Heres me writing the same word in Hangul(excuse my crappy writing, I drew it in paint)
