SEOUL (AFP) — A 29-year-old Japanese woman was found hanged inside the toilet of a Korean Air flight as the plane was preparing to land at Incheon airport near Seoul, the airline said Thursday.

When the passenger failed to return to her seat, a flight attendant checked the toilet where she found the woman hanging from the wall with a scarf around her neck.

She did not respond to emergency medical procedures performed on the plane and was pronounced dead on arrival in hospital.

The plane, which took off from Honolulu, landed at Incheon late Wednesday. The woman had been scheduled to fly on to Fukuoka in southwestern Japan, the police said.

"We've heard no suicide note was found," a Korean Air spokesman said.

Police informed the Japanese embassy of the incident and are investigating the case.

Of all places, in a freaking airplane?

Why people kill themselves in public? I think that's really selfish since children could see them. Do it on your own home. I remember about the woman from Oregon somewhere that hanged herself in a tree on a Halloween night. Yup, everyone thought that was just another decoration until the next day. RIP to those who feel hopeless and end up killing themselves, however.

Man, the other passengers must have freaked out (when informed.)

(Hanging on an airplane...those lavatories are small and cramped, not even sure if there's room or a light fixture to hang from without your toes touching the floor or lavatory seat, thus defeating the purpose of hanging.)

hmm, one woman found hanged and another woman has birth on two separate korean air flights, the circle of life.

The service isn't that great in those budget airlines, but this particular one probably sucks!

It is more like the Japanese got some explaining to do, from their suicides, suicide clubs and increased stabbing incidents. It looks like Japan needs free psychiatric evaluations for everybody.

Could her death have been a mile high club accident? Autoerotic asphyxiation comes to mind, but I am being facetious.

I wonder if that plane would be hunted on this day onwards...

tsk, whats up with japanese people and their suicidal living? Too weird...
darkhamster123
flying with korean air is usually enough to make me want to kill myself .... but have u guys ever noticed that koreans are generally much better behaved on flights into korea than out? less snorting and toilet door pushing etc - must get socialized when they're away.
btw hasn't korea got the highest suicide rate in the OECD now? must be an awesome country!
