Terror threats to India mounting: Report
In spite of efforts being made by India at diplomatic level to improve relations with its neighbours, threat to the country's security from cross-border terrorism is on the upswing.
There were reports suggesting that China is aiding and abetting insurgency in the North East. An internal document of the government reveals that ISI is vigourously pursuing its pan to foment terrorism in Kashmir and destabilise India. The document, quoted by The Times of India, states that the objectives of ISI include `liberation' of Kashmir, revival of militancy in Punjab and use of Bihar-Nepal border for smuggling arms, explosives and fake currency. The report states that ISI plans to collaborate with ULFA and take control of insurgent networks from Bangladesh. ISI also plans to use certain madrasas as its operational base in border states like West Bengal.
The report suggests that illegal influx from Bangladesh has to be viewed seriously as this population shelters anti-India elements and provides a steady recruitment to jihadi modules. The immigrant population is so strong that it can influence upto 20 Assembly seats in Delhi, the report cautions.
