Among other Asian cultures, I find it is more openly common that people be racist. But Japanese people seem to be very receptive to other cultures... more so than like Chinese or Korean for instance...

I agree with you in your comparison with japanese and koreans. Japanese are much more tolerant. As for the comparison with japanese and chinese. The chinese are tolerant to most groups. I would say that they are a little more tolerant.

i dont know if its because of my childhood experience, but i've always noticed that Korean men seem to have a superiority complex. They tend to look down on other asian races and are not really tolerant of other cultures. Its funny that i should say this but, i used to get into fights with Koreans all the times when i was in elementary school. And during high school, i just about pounded the $hit outta this Korean dude that kept talking trash about me.

Im not flaming or discriminating against anyone, i guess i had bad experiences with bad ppl. Im sure every race has good/bad ppl.

BTW- The Japanese are very nice ppl. I cant remember the last time an American bothered help me find stuff in a store, walk me around, and even pick up the stuff i accidently dropped. Seriously, they are so nice. ^_^

I agree with you guys. Theres an area in Korea where all types of ppl live. When I went there I saw a lot of Blacks, Whites, Etc. Whats cool is that those people can live there and it can still be fully Korean.

? Religion makes us Asian? I'm taking this Religion and Politics class, and it says that Chinese Traditional Religion has about 225 million followers. However I don't really think it's that much of a religion as a culture/tradition type thing. I think I fall under that category. As for practicing, I do "baibai" to guanyin but I'm not hardcore or anything. But I don't think that should mean I'm not under that religion...

Not true. In Osaka, at least, the whites are largely ignored. I have even heard that there have been signs outside onsen (hot spring) baths that specifically forbid Caucasians, particularly Russians.

And I doubt the Japanese are "more open to Western views". A good example is democracy. I believe many Japanese people like the idea of "equal rights and tolerance for all", but that hasn't worked out in their society. They are a matured society though, just not a Western one.



I don't think that's entirely true. To the credit of the Japanese, many won't go out of their way to make you feel unwelcome. I believe that it's only when you try to integrate into their society that they'll freeze up.

However, the Japanese can be as xenophobic. Why do you think that even to this day, less than 2% of their population are non-Japanese? And not to mention that foreign citizens are not allowed to vote in the local Japanese elections. They value homogeneity.

That isn't to say that the Japanese are largely racist though. They just aren't as enthusiastic about Multiculturalism as the Americans are.
