I've asked various Japanese and they say they dont like it. As soon as i saay it , they laugh or say "eewww.. no way"
I heard many Enka and it's great.
And the thing is,, even if they dont like the themes in the songs, still, the music is great so why hate it so much?
In other countries, they have their equivalent of Enka and everyone enjoys it even young people. In my parents country in Latin America, they have songs that are pretty much like Enka and i like them, and young people like them.
So what is wrong with Japanese. why they dont appreciate AT LEAST the music, they dont have to like the words but at least the music. why they hate it?

I reckon the Japanese music industry today is way too concerned with "popular" music. Pop music is used everywhere there. In Western countries, people often bag pop music, and there is other indie music, underground music etc. In Japan, this is not as existent.
I've never been to Japan, so don't trust me.

Jero helped bring back interest in Enka in the Japanese youth.

It's a pretty valid question.
Traditional music is losing ground everywhere, even in latinoamérica.
