Support Petition to “Chotisak and his friend”
On the case of being charged with Lese Majeste for expressing
freedom of expression by sitting down during “Royal Anthem”

This is relating to the incident which Mr. Chotisak Oonsoong and his friend was harassed and charge under the article 112 of the criminal code regarding lese majeste. The article says “anyone insults or expresses vengeance to the King, the Queen, the crown prince and princesses will be persecuted with three to fifteen years imprisonment”. This is after the express their freedom of expression by sitting during the “Royal Anthem”, which happened on 20 September 2007.
On 5 April 2008, the related police department informed them of being charged of the lese majeste law and appoints them to listen to the charge on Tuesday 22 April 2008 at 1.30 pm at Pathumwan Precinct.
We, the undersigned, would like to express regarding this case:
1. We fully support Mr. Chotisak and his friend to fight this case until the end.
2. We disagree with the use of lese majeste law to prohibit the individual’s freedom of expression, as if they are criminals as is happening now.
3. We disagree with the use of violence and harassment on those with different thoughts/ political ideologies, not matter what they think. The beauty of democracy is that people can have the rights to think differently, which should be respected and preserved.

Those do not stand are not criminals. Thinking differently is not a crime.

Sincerely,

The fact that this guy starts wearing a shirt with a logo that say those who don't stand are not criminals, means that he is against the king and lese majeste is done to demonstrate to people about his intension. In brief, I think he should accept the consequence of his action. Lese majeste is a well established law, and it's been used for hundred of years. This guy must know already about the result of his action when he broke the law.

If I don't wanna stand during a royal anthem, and people start to b!tch about it, all I need to say is my leg hurts. I won't go around the internet telling people those don't stand aren't criminal. If I do so, then it is clear that I am the king hater who wanna abolish the lese majeste law and too yellow to accept the consequnce of my action. thumbsdown.gif

well, at least now he is (in)famous. I think his parents must be really proud.

and if he goes to jail, he will get fu-ked too.

i think that probably the reason why he did it in the first place. embarassedlaugh.gif

after reading all the comments, all i can say is that you guys are like a bunch of animal, a herd of sheep. do what you are told, dont think, dont use your brain. dont you feel ashame at all at what thailand has become: backward uneducated and primitive. this law should have been abolished ages ago. it is now 2008 mate. i dont think what he did was wrong but just inappropriate. so what if he doesnt want to glorify or worship the royal family. This stupid law is so outdated. mate, younger generations dont give a fu-k about them anymore. they (the royal family) have totally lost touch with normal thais. if the royal family is so well loved by us, there is no reason for this law at all, is there. if we still keep suppressing the freedom of speech, one day we will follow into nepal's footstep. That guy represents a growing number of the new generation, there are definitely more to come. i salute him for his courage. The two most corrupt institutions in thailand are the royal family and the military.

with regard to your thai comment, mate, all he did was not standing up and 'pay respect' to the anthem. he didnt point his feet at HM or slap the king at the back of the head, did he?

The things like this is just very commonsense not even need to be a law. I consider those who brake it is straight forward and brave but they has to deserve for their dumb act
For example ,you are the Liverpool fan and in the BIG match between Liverpool & ManU you chose to sit on the ManU side and offend them. If you get screw or assult. People think you deserve for it

1 pointing with feet, slaping the head -- aren't these the sign of being disrespectful?
2 lese majeste law is more than a law, it's a tradition. Of course a law or tradition could be wrongful because they are merely created by people. But what Chotisak did was obviouslybackward, uneducated and primitive-- no different than what he probably thinks about this law . If he likes to be civilized about it why not ask the government to amend the law. The constitution of 2007 obviously allows it. He only needs about 49999 people with similar opinions. No one force him to stand down, even if he was being forced to stand down he is definitely free to say things like my legs hurt. My only point is if you dare to break the law, then please do have guts to accept the consequence.

So, be a hero, go to jail for 15 years, prove your determination to the public, stop whining. Maybe someday you'd muster enough people to change the law. But for now, to me, this man deserves no kind of salutation whatsoever for the wussy that he is. kiss.gif

Finally we can agree on the same thing. biggthumpup.gif Inappropriate or not, it's the law, your friend clearly intended to break. Let's hope he stay in jail as long as the law will allow. On the side note, I didn't know there is such thing as the palace anthem. You must love the royalty a lot more than I do. The only thing left for me to wonder is what has made you to lose so much of your humanity? Can money make a decent man into a dog?

Is this mean some things like throw the snack outside the box then replace 2 million Baht cash in to the box?

http://www.bangkokpost.net/breaking_news/b...s.php?id=128504
(BangkokPost.com) - The Supreme Court on Wednesday handed down a six-month jail term to three lawyers working for ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra in a case in which a lawyer handed a snack box containing two million baht to a C-7 court official on June 10.

Tucksin treat Thailand as his own company.

While my King treat Thailand as His own home.

Tucksin treat Thai people as his own employee.

While my King treat Thai people as His own family.

Tucksin could sell his own company if its mean more money in his account.

While my King will never sell his own Home.

If I have to judge a man from his life time works, it would be my King whom I'll trust.

Many of the King's projects proof to help Thailand in the long run, to be in the right track ;if we shall follow them.

Try thinking outside the capitalism a bit, you'll see...

1. poor yes, if you judge the country's wealth from an economist's point of view. but what is poverty really? i'm a doctor working for government hospital and I see a lot of sick overweight people who consider themselves very poor. i see poor people who are able to intoxicate themselves with alcohol, amphetamine (yaba) 24/7. Back in the old day, I imagine poverty to be something like people in Ethiopia where everyone is starving for food, cloth, and shelter. Today we don't see pictures like that anymore, maybe because they're all dead. anyway, how much income do you think these fat and drunkers need to get themselves out of their problems?

2. i don't think anybody here in this forum worship the royalty like people in the past. It's a known fact, that we are all human, created equal. The royal family is clearly not god, just men like us. But the difference between you and me is I do have ศรัทธา (conviction held out from belief) that king rama ix is a good man and you don't -- despite his dedication to this country which is undeniably remarkable. A good man is a good man. I'm sure if you ever meet the man like that you know that no kind of malicious act will bring him harm easily. just like the old thai proverb

3. thinking outside the box happens when there is no obvious solution to the problem we are trying to solve. In case of Thaksin, he needs that now more than ever. I could look into the eyes of each of his ministers and see the sign of doubt and worry. For thailand, we just need a less corrupt government.
