Hey there people,

I was in the middle of planning to visit the Philippines for a holiday next month.
What with the severity of the weather at the moment do you think this is a good idea? Is it safe?
Any help is welcome but if some one who is living there at the moment could help out I'd really appreciate it! =)

it's safe but it's the rainy season, and i hate to travel when wet... are you ok travelling like that?
so many beaches here and u can appreciate it more in summer...
summer here is in march - early may... latter part of may is already rainy season...
felltohell
where exactly in the Philippines do you want to go to?
if you got destinations/s already, would be easier to help laugh.gif
Sephy
How bad does the weather get in the rainy season? Is it raining all day non-stop? or are there small showers here and there?
I Am leaving this part of the world at the end of next month so this is the only chance I have for a while to go there.

I would like to go to Cebu, but probably we would just stay in Manilla and visit different sights on Luzon Island. Spending two days here and two days there. We would be in Philippines for about 10 days.

Sometimes it rain non stop, sometimes it just drizzles. But the rainy season here also means storm spells. I don't really recommend touring during rainy season. You can ask your tour agent though for good places to visit during rainy season. He/she might have suggestions.

Thanks.

omg don't spend your holiday in Manila

I think it's safe now since the storm has passed, but please be aware of damaged or destroyed areas, since they are often filled with dangerous debris all over the place. Plus from what I've experienced, there's nothing fun to do in a storm ravaged area.
Sephy
Haha ok, not going to go. embarassedlaugh.gif I'll go to Malaysia instead.

I really really wanted to go though, my best friend is from Philippines and he always has an awesome time when he goes.

I will definitely be going at some point!!

I think the best thing you can do is to wait until next summer or spring to go the Philippines. But if you don't wanna wait that long probably go there by this fall. But you never wanna go within 3 months of the storm.

i think Malaysia has similar weather pattern as the Philippines, and the rest of southeast Asia. get ready for some monsoon rains in the afternoon.
Sephy
The weather in Malaysia is a little more consistant.
All year round they have rain but it is breifly here and there. (so I have read)
felltohell

@ Sephy: I traveled to Cebu last October 2007 and that's the wet season here in the Philippines. On our first day in Malapascua Island it was raining. We arrived at 4 in the afternoon so we had early dinner instead. Which was fine by me 'cause I also felt the need to rest since the trip from the City was tiring. The next day it was very hot so we were able to go snorkeling and checked out the blue corals.

I guess that's pretty much how it is during the "wet season." So unless there's a typhoon you should be okay. biggrin.gif

I'd be willing to help you on your trip here. =)
Sephy
Hey thanks very much for the advice, we decided on Malaysia for our holiday though.
I have a friend who lives there so we can go see him.

Also I would very much like to visit the Philippines with my friend from back home so that I can hand out with his family and maybe get to know a few more places I would not otherwise visit without a native to the Islands.. I'll definitely do it another time!! biggthumpup.gif
