Im thinking of going out to Tokyo to check out the city plus the night life looks insane. Does anyone know what the cost of living is there and if jobs are scarce out there?

Ima start off by kicking it out there to see what it has to offer. Im a total nightowl and Tokyo seemed to be the one to choose. Beijing was my second. If its good Im outta here.

Shanghai is much better for nightlife in China than Beijing.

I'd recommend you get the language and culture down before you plan to move to Tokyo.
I am planning on becomeing a permanent resident in Tokyo, but I am going there to study through my college next year to get most of the language and history down(from what I don't know) and then go back after college.

if you're caucasian, you don't have to learn the language at all. you can get by with just making hand motions and speaking english really loud and very slow
